Less than an hour from Denver, Colorado in a lush Rocky Mountain setting, Central City Opera is among Colorado's elite summer music festivals. The second oldest annual professional opera festival in the country, the company continues to make history with three productions each year including one opera favorite, one American work and one lesser-known piece.

Make plans now for Central City Opera's 2010 Festival
(June 26 to August 8):

Subscriptions start at just $90 for all three shows (that's just $30 a show!). Subscribe today for the best seats at the best price! Call 303-292-6700 or click here to buy tickets. In addition to the summer Festival, Central City Opera's Bonfils-Stanton Young Artists Training Program offers career-entry opera training to today's youth with career management classes as well as main stage rehearsal and performance opportunities. Year-round opera education and community programs entertain and educate more than 100,000 people each year across the Rocky Mountain region. A steward of historic preservation, the company also maintains the Central City Opera House and 30 other Victorian-era properties which serve as performance and rehearsal venues and house Festival staff each summer.

Course in the Alexander Technique - July 19-23
The 16th Annual Summer Course in the Alexander Technique at the University of Colorado at Boulder will be held July 19-23, 2010, 9:00 to noon daily. A one day Intensive will be held July 24, 1-5:00 pm. The 2010 faculty includes Ed
Bilanchone, Carol Boggs, and James Brody.

The Alexander Technique is a powerful tool for changing habits in movement and thinking. While anyone can benefit from this Technique, the work applies especially well to musicians and educators. Participants will learn about
generalized and specific body use issues that can affect both performance and educational settings, as well as practical skills for the classroom. The results of a medical study in England that investigated the Alexander Technique were
recently published in the British Medical Journal. A link to a summary of the study and a short film about it can be found at: http://www.bmj.com/cgi/content/full/337/aug19_2/a884.

Quiet Song for Band- Grade 1/2, by Debbie Davidson.
A great song for the first band concert of the year! It uses the first five notes typically used in band method books, and is inspired by "Bolero." A quiet tune begins with the flutes and then gradually all of the instruments are added for a big climax before it tapers back down to the flutes. Sure to be a crowd-pleaser!

Finale to Beethoven Symphony No. 9- Grade 2+ for full orchestra and SAB chorus, Debbie Davidson.
Arranged to make this amazing classic accessible for middle school students. Key signatures and changes are simplified. Vocal parts are all doubled, and the Baritone part is optional. An advanced part is included for extra support - when this piece was premiered at Cherry Creek Academy, a teacher played this advanced part on the cello and an advanced piano student played it on piano. Most of the second parts (i.e. second clarinet, second flute, second violin) can be handled by students in their second year of instruction. The Cherry Creek Academy performance involved singers, grades 5 - 8, band members, grades 6 - 8, and orchestra members, grades 6-8.
