What's the Forecast for the 2010 Real Estate Market?
 
When asked this question I like to hear what Cameron Muir, the Chief Economist of the British Columbia Real Estate Association has to say. Here is Cameron's 2010 Housing Forecast

A reminder that the HST came into effect July 1, 2010. There is a great deal of confusion as to how this will impact real estate. The full HST will only apply to new home purchases over $525,000 and not on resale properties. It will also apply to related services such as home inspections, brokerage and legal fees etc.

Interest Rates!

Remember all the hype and fear around the interest rates rising from the all time lows? Well...some of the rates have come back down again. The bank prime rate did increase to 2.50% from 2.25%. However, many institutions have reduced their 5 year fixed term rate from 5.59% to 5.24%. What's the lesson here? Speak with your mortgage professional about your specific situation and not the newspaper and radio hype. Although mortgage professionals can not always predict what will happen with rates, they have far more insight and knowledge on the subject than the guy sitting at the next table in the coffee shop.
