WCA's O'Connell Moderates Session on Transportation at White House

WCA Executive Director Mark O'Connell was at the White House on Thursday, January 12, 2012, where he moderated a session on transportation issues and challenges facing counties.

Those at the session were guest speaker Polly Trotenberg, Undersecretary of Planning, U.S. Department of Transportation and White House Deputy Director of the Office of Intergovernmental Affairs David Agnew.  Also present were county officials from around the nation, including WCA President Dick Koeppen.
 
WCA Group Health Trust Co-Sponsoring BRB Consortium Health Insurance Seminar January 24th

GHTOn January 24, 2012, the WCA Group Health Trust, along with the Wisconsin County Mutual Insurance Corporation, will be co-sponsoring the Budget Repair Bill Consortium Health Insurance Seminar. The free seminar for WCA Group Health Trust members, as well as consortium members, will focus on service delivery in light of recent changes to the state's collective bargaining agreements.

The event will be held from 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Stevens Point, 1001 Amber Avenue, Stevens Point, WI. To learn more and to register, click here.

WI Women's Network Announces Applications for Wisconsin Women's Policy Institute

The Wisconsin Women's Network (WWN) recently announced applications are available for its 2012 Wisconsin Women's Policy Institute. WWN seeks to recruit 10-15 participants for the non-partisan Wisconsin Women's Policy Institute's training program, to be held in Madison. The purpose of the Institute is to develop more effective women community leaders throughout Wisconsin. Learn more about the program and how to apply here.

WCA Sponsoring Open Forum on Administrative Coordinators

 

The Wisconsin Counties Association is inviting county officials to participate in an Open Forum on Administrative Coordinators on Monday, February 6th from 3:00-5:00 p.m. at the Madison Concourse Hotel.

The purpose of the free forum is to give local officials a chance to discuss with each other and with WCA staff a recent Wisconsin Attorney General's opinion. The opinion appears to restrict county board chairs from serving as administrative coordinators. Learn more and register here.

2012 APA-WI Spring Workshop "Planning for the Next Generation" Coming March 1st

 

Plan to join the American Planning Association-Wisconsin Chapter for a one-day workshop on March 1, 2012 at the Oshkosh Convention Center. Featured speakers at the morning plenary session are Oshkosh Mayor Burk Tower and UW-Oshkosh Chancellor Richard Wells. An Open Space Technology session will follow with breakout sessions in the afternoon that will be of interest to public officials, citizens, planners and architects. Tom Still is the keynote speaker at the lunch plenary session.

Early registration is available through February 17, 2012 with a special rate of $99 and $45 for plan commission members, students and unemployed APA members. Online registration is now open. Learn more here.

County Mutual Highway Safety Days Coming in May

 

The Wisconsin County Mutual Insurance Corporation will be holding the inaugural Highway Safety Days in May, 2012.  The event, held at two separate locations and dates, will be a day of enrichment for county highway employees and municipal employees.
