County Officials in Madison This Week for Kick-Off of County Ambassador Program
County
officials from around the state were in Madison on Wednesday, January 20th for the kick-off of the
new County Ambassador Program (CAP), a presidential initiative by Wisconsin
Counties Association (WCA) President and Calumet County Supervisor Alice
Connors.
The
County Ambassador Program involves 44 counties and 85 county officials and aims
to increase awareness and understanding of county issues with legislators in
Madison.
"As
counties, it is vital that we have a good partnership with the state, because
together, we must deliver the needed services to our citizens," said WCA
Executive Director Mark D. O'Connell. "The nation and our state are facing
difficult fiscal times and among all the methods of communication with our state
policy makers, in such times, perhaps none is as important as face-to-face
meetings. I believe that is why
the Capitol Ambassador Program is more important today than at any point in the
past."

O'Connell, Falk Featured on Wisconsin Eye
The recession forced new, difficult decisions on all segments of
Wisconsin's economy. In the first of a new WisconsinEye series,
Surviving Recession, five leaders of local governments talk about the
broken system that forces them to rely on shared-revenue payments from
the state and property taxes to pay for critical programs. Madison
Mayor Dave Cieslewicz, Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk, Milwaukee
County Supervisor John Thomas, Curt Witynski of the League of Wisconsin
Municipalities and Mark D. O'Connell, executive director of the Wisconsin
Counties Association, discussed long-range changes in that funding
system. Source: WisconsinEye.org
