Greetings!
In celebration of the Labor Day weekend, this will be short but sweet! The highlight of August was the Pell Cup. Newport's signature event lived up to expectations as over 30 teams competed in 5 divisions.
Looking forward, September will be a "quiet" month on the tournament schedule. Translate "quiet" into a great time to dust off your racquets and practice for the upcoming season, because it is going to a busy one! The youngest players (under 15) kick off the 2012/13 season in Newport with a singles and doubles tournament. Next up is the Hadden Tomes Invitational followed by the biggest event of the year - the grand opening of the Chicago court! What a start to the season....get ready!
So with that I'll leave you to read on for the full Pell Cup results, a pro tip from Rich Smith and Jim Zug's interview with Ray Spence regarding his Leamington photo shoot.
Enjoy the weekend!
Sincerely,
|

Award-winning and constantly exhibiting, he lectures at the Birmingham Institute of Art & Design and is the author of many photography books.
In July 2012 Spence exhibited photographs in Leamington Spa from his LRTC project.

TIPS FROM THE PRO
by Rich Smith
Court position, shot selection, communication and the most important -serve selection.
Communication is key in doubles, make sure you talk to you partner in a constructive manner.
Remember: the only point you have 100% control over, is the serve. So take your time!
If you feel the match is slipping away:
Change your serve or stand in a different place on the return.
The change of position will give your opponent a different depth perspective. . |
