Greetings!
2012 is shaping up to be a great year. The first event of the year was the 2012 US Open. Given that this is a World Championship year, fans from around the world were following the tournament with great interest. After a week of great tennis and some very interesting results, the #2 seed Bryn Sayers emerged as the winner over the #1 seed Steve Virgona. Virgona did not go home without a title however, as he and Tim Chisholm teamed up to win the US Open doubles title. Sayers and Virgona, along with Ben Matthews, are vying to be the challenger to take on Rob Fahey in the 2012 World Championship.
The first World Championship eliminator between Matthews and Sayers will begin in February. The winner will go on to face Steve Virgona in the Final Eliminator, scheduled for March 6-10 at Seacourt. The World Championship will be held at the Queen's Club in late April. (Ticket information can be found below.) Stay tuned - it looks like it is going to be an interesting few months in the pro ranks!
On the amateur side, there are many gold medals to be won in the next few months. This weekend will be the "super bowl of tennis" as four of the five national level championships are being played. Washington kicked off the party last week with the Noll Cup. Other events in February include the Etchebaster Cup, the Gold Racquet and the Women's Invitational. March looks to be just as busy, so check out the website for entry information.
Stay in touch with us online through our Facebook page, where you will find real time postings and the USCTA website, which posts the entry forms and tournament results.
Sincerely,

TIPS FROM THE PROS
by Steve Virgona
When trying to get better length with groundstrokes players often focus solely on the second bounce of the shot.
Ideally, you should focus on where the first bounce is. If you hit the shot so it first bounces on or around last gallery, it will almost certainly land within 2 yards of the back wall.
