Dear Residents and Friends of Sullivan's Island: Brisk, cooler weather brings thoughts of Fall and long walks on a quiet beach, perhaps with your dog ("Winter" hours are in effect for dogs on the beach). | Fire Prevention Day! | | WednesdaySubheading October 12, 2011 Come celebrate Fire Prevention Week & thank your firefighters for their hard work! 4:30PM Parade Come see and hear fire engines from all over the Lowcountry! Route: Isle of Palms Marina Fire Station to S.I. Fire Station (2050 Middle) 5:30PM Celebration Highlights: fire engines, jump castles, pizza, etc!
Fun, family-friendly, free event for all!
NOTE: Middle Street around fire station will be closed (approx 3-8PM). |

Executive Session for legal advice regarding ongoing litigation (Bluestein, et al vs. Town of Sullivan's Island
(6:00PM approx) Town Council Meeting- Open Session
Regular monthly Town Council meeting will begin after Executive Session, approximately at 6:00PM.
Agenda will include consideration of Community Commercial Overlay District (potential First Reading by Title Only of Ordinance 2011-6).
Council Workshop - Accreted Land
Previous date of October 28, 2011 has been cancelled. Please monitor the Town website for new workshop date.
NOTE: All meetings, except Executive Session, are open to the public and everyone is encouraged to attend! Meetings are at Town Hall (2050-B Middle). |

Town Council is scheduled to consider Ord 2011-5 for ratification on Tuesday, October 18, 2011. Click Here for more information on Ord. 2011-5.
Charleston County School District (CCSD) News
CCSD is currently in the design phase for the new Sullivan's Island Elementary School and invites you to participate in this process!
CCSD has offered two opportunities for residents to offer design feedback, to date:
September 22nd - Sunrise Presbyterian Church
(thank you Sunrise Presbyterian for your hospitality)
October 4, 2011 - SIES (Old Whitesides Elementary)
Thank you SIES PTA for hosting this Workshop
CCSD will offer additional Community Workshops soon. Please watch for announcements on the Town's website and/or the CCSD project website.

TOWN HALL & POLICE STATION
This summer the Town issued an RFQ for Consultant Services to develop a Civic Needs Assessment. Town Council selected Creech and Associates Architectural Design of Charleston, SC from a field of nine (9) respondents for this project. The consulting firm is currently working with Town Staff on this project.
TENNIS & BASKETBALL COURT RE-DESIGN (Stith Park)Four firms responded to the Town's RFP for Stith Park Tennis & Basketball Court Re-design on September 16, 2011. These bids are currently under review for final Council selection. |

Crosswalk, Pedestrian & Bicycle Safety
Refresh your knowledge of crosswalk and pedestrian safety. Vehicles yield to pedestrians already in a cross-walk or at an intersection. Otherwise, pedestrians should yield to vehicles when crossing a road. Click here for helpful information from SC Department of Motor Vehicles.
Halloween Safety
Halloween is just around this corner (Monday, Oct 31st) and it is never too early to think of "trick or treat" safety. Parents, as you purchase Halloween costumes and gear, remember to pick up flashlights and reflective materials for your kids (and pets)!
