SOLD OUT AGAIN
Congratulations are in order as national approval of Congress has fallen into single digits for the first time since, well maybe ever. The much touted Congressional Super Committee announced ... you guessed it, nothing. We've been sold out again by the knuckle heads in Washington. Did anyone really believe another committee would be the answer?
Let us take a quick trip down memory lane. Just last July, almost 70% of Americans were telling pollsters they did not want Congress to increase the debt ceiling. Obama's response was that the American people don't understand, and they should leave this important work to "professional politicians." Recall that after hours of grueling negotiations, much of it on the golf course, John (Tear Baby) Boehner conceded the last, best hope we had for reining in spending. He surrendered and gave Obama his reelection dream ticket. The biggest debt ceiling increase in history was traded for another empty promise. "The Super Committee will save us." Jabba the Hut, now masquerading as the federal government, can continue eating everything in sight as the Republic lurches towards financial disaster. So much for Obama's advice to leave this to the professional politicians.
How many times shall we watch "let's make a deal" before we throw them all out and start over? First in line for retirement should be every knucklehead who voted to raise the debt ceiling.Students of history know that if we don't learn from our mistakes, we are bound to repeat them, and repeat them. A corollary to this is that the only mistakes we learn from are the ones we survive. Even the "grand bargain" doubles the national debt in ten years. The Republic will not survive a thirty trillion dollar debt. We must replace politicians who only think as far as the next election with leaders who will think about the next generation. Each day I become more convinced that a term limits amendment is the only answer to breaking the back of Party Power Politics. And the only way we'll ever get that is a Constitutional Convention.
Next week we will take a look at Obamanomics. Until then,
Keep the faith,
Bob McConnell
