 HOBBITS UNITE

President Obama essentially told us all this debt ceiling stuff is too complicated for mere citizens to understand, and that we should leave solving the crisis to "professional politicians."  This weekend, Senator McCain called those of us who don't really like being told to sit down and shut up, "Hobbits."  So it comes down to this:  Hobbits versus professional politicians.  Wikipedia says Hobbits are a fictional variety of little humans who struggle for the right on a moral plane, and who are capable of defending their homes courageously if the need arises.

Who are the professional politicians selling our unborn posterity into financial slavery? I call them the Four Horseman of our financial apocalypse: McConnell, Boehner, Reid and Pelosi. Between them they have served over ninety five years in the House or Senate. They have voted to grow our debt from $1 trillion to over $14 trillion. They are the architects of the crisis. One has been identified as among the richest in Congress, and one among the most corrupt. One has apologized for handing out campaign contributions on the floor of the House. One sold out of the stock market in 2008, the day after receiving a confidential briefing on the looming financial melt-down. They are the professionals, the product of an in-bred, two party political system that rewards mediocrity. They are who the President wants us to trust.

Call me proud to be a Hobbit who won't shut up. I will be wearing a black armband today, mourning the loss of freedom, mourning today's victory of lies over liberty, of politicians over patriots. Join me if you care.

It's time for me to regroup and recharge.  I'm off to Alaska for two weeks of fishing with Army buddies.  Seize the high ground, and hold.
