So, where are we as the clock ticks down to the end of the world? Many of you seem numb to the debt crisis debate, or as I called it last February, THE PUPPET SHOW. I understand, but we have to stay in the game. Despite all the doomsday propaganda from both Republicans and Democrats, sixty plus percent of us continue to believe the debt ceiling should not be raised. Pat yourself on the back and shout hooray. Independents, and yes, Tea Party folks are being heard, at least by people taking polls, if not by career politicians.
Despite that, the media continues to faithfully carry the water for the "we must raise the debt ceiling or die" bunch. Obama is getting more desperate and continues to froth about not paying Social Security checks and the military. Boehner has already sent his golf shorts to the cleaners so they will be ready for the "we are all in this together" photo op with Obama, Pelosi and Reid. Michele Bachmann has put her word not to ever vote to raise the debt ceiling out there for us all to see in a campaign ad . Enough members in the House are following her lead that whether Boehner and his bunch can sell us out remains in question. So where do your representatives stand as the most important vote of their political careers looms on the horizon? I am hearing from folks that my representative, Scott Tipton doesn't answer the mail. Sounds like Salazar redoux. After not answering two emails, in response to our third, one of his staff members said "The Congressman will not vote to raise the debt ceiling unless there are guaranteed cuts equal to or greater than the proposed increase." In other words, Tipton will go along with Boehner and the GOP to get along with Boehner and the GOP.
As I said last week, this is for all the marbles. Any deal that ties debt increase to spending cuts is a sham. Do the math. The biggest cuts anyone is talking about amount to $4 trillion over ten years. That is the biggest number, and most of that really is tax hikes and gimmicks. Anyway, at our present burn rate of $1.5 trillion in additional debt every year, in ten years we add $15 trillion to the existing $14.3 trillion to arrive at $29.3 trillion, minus $4 trillion, which leaves $25.3 trillion. My friends, listen, the debt will almost DOUBLE by 2021, and that is the best deal on the table. Meanwhile, our representatives play duck and cover rather than address structural reform, particularly the immoral outcome of our federal welfare programs. Put Star Parker's newest book,Uncle Sam's Plantation, with Bill Cosby's Come On People, on your reading list and you begin to understand just how immoral this is.
Boehner wants us to buy a deal so he can put on his golf shorts, get a photo op and stay Number Three. Past history shows Congress will forget to implement even those cuts if their precious reelection is on the line. No Deal on the Debt until you show us you can be honest. Pass a balanced budget amendment starting with the next fiscal year in both the Senate and the House. Then let the People decide whether to take away the congressional credit card. We didn't take back Our House last November just to have the Boehner bunch sell us out. We will remember in November 2012, trust me.
