LEAVING A LEGACY
Phyllis and I have just attended an event called The Art of Marriage. I have been reminded of how important it is to pass on a positive legacy to those who follow us. When I am gone, will they say, "I am glad he came," or will it be said, "he passed away, to no one's regret." How do we convert convictions into behavior? How do we leave a legacy money can't buy, and taxes can't take away? This was heavy duty stuff. I highly recommend you visit www.familylife.com to find out more about Family Life programs.
The weekend concluded as we watched the President announce a major victory in the War on Terror. Yesterday, Seal Team 6 and supporting units brought an evil man to the justice he so richly deserved. I pray every night for those who protect us, our military, law enforcement, fire, emergency medical personnel, and their families. I hope Americans unite in praying they remain vigilant, that their sacrifices are appreciated, and they will be remembered. Today I also pray that the more than a billion Muslims around the world will move forward with us in peace.
Increasingly it seems, events swirl around us over which we have little control. Our fate is in the hands of elected leaders in whom I have little trust, and for whom I have precious little respect. Despite that, I pray every night for them, that they make good and right decisions for America.
People ask whether they should buy gold, stockpile food, or build fortifications to prepare for total collapse. My view is that we will not survive collapse by hunkering down and hoarding. Buy gold as an investment, not as a way out of total financial meltdown. Should that come, those with large supplies of gold will only become a target. Stockpile food, water, medical supplies, and what you need to get you and your family through a week. More than that, and once again you just become a target. The only fortification that will protect you in total collapse is the full armor of God. Ephesians 6: 10-17. Put it on.
Rather than spending time and resources preparing for total collapse, we must avoid collapse with a legacy of giving. All of us have something to give whether it be time, wealth, knowledge, or caring. Now more than ever, it is so important to be truly generous. Find something to give and your legacy will be: "well done my good and faithful servant." |
