WHAT DOES YOUR CONGRESSMAN SPEND ON PENCILS?

The focus of this issue is money and how politicians spend it.  Did you know that every congressman has a budget of $1.5 million annually to run his/her office?  In our book, that's a lot of ching.

Where does it go?  Best of luck finding out, in this new era of "transparency."  We discovered that it's darn near impossible to get your representative to open up his/her books. Last year we tried to get Rep. John Salazar to explain how he paid for an expensive glossy brochures with taxpayer money.  Here's what we found out:

His office, as usual, didn't respond to an e-mail.  When we called they asked for the request in writing.  We did that.  No response.  We wrote to the Clerk of the House who said 'write to your congressman.'  We filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA)Request just to see our own congressman's taxpayer expenditures.

Guess what?  The FOIA doesn't apply to Congress. What a surprise. Yet another law that doesn't apply to lawmakers.

Here's our challenge to you: try to find out what your representative spends on travel, staff, meals, or pencils.  Tell your representative you want that budget ON LINE so you can see every penny he/she spends.  Let us know the results.  Will they be grim?

We will no longer elect, listen to, or trust representatives who are not totally transparent with our taxpayer dollars.

CONSERVATIVES VOW TO PIT A GOP PRIMARY OPPONENT AGAINST SCOTT BROWN.

JUST SAY NO

The Republican National Committee (RNC) reports that it is $23 MILLION DOLLARS IN DEBT.  Now, what's the first thing they want to do about it?  Cut spending?  NO. Trim the fat, fire staff, get a budget?  Why NO. The very first thing these fearless Republican "leaders" want to do is.... Ask you for more money ! Sound horribly familiar?

Not only do they want more money, they want it from those they disdain, the very people they have scorned, ignored, and tried to suppress: tea party activists.  Here's what the new RNC president, Reice Preibus said about this massive debt:

"We have our work cut out for us, but I am confident we will succeed in turning around the RNC through hard work, transparency and honesty with our hardworking grassroots activists and donors."

This is so wrong in so many ways it defies logic. Who's "hard work" will get these guys out of the hole?  What "transparency" - the kind in Colorado where the GOP votes in secret? And suddently we're their buddies? They like the tea party folks!  Please guys. Just how stupid do you think we are?

For the record, the Democratic Party reports $1.5 million in the bank, but who knows if that's true or not.  Both parties spend 2/3 of money donated to them for the care and comfort of staff and donors, and for throwing parties and events to raise more money.  Somehow, if you believe these reports, the Dems manage to engage in this debauchery and still come out in the black.

The Republican parties are extravagant beyond belief, and include visits to a topless club.

Take a look at the actual expenditures for the RNC and you'll note over $12 million spent on strategic fundraising .  And these are the same knuckleheads who will be hitting you up for $10, $25 or $100 of your hard earned dollars.  They are junkies, political and fiscal junkies and we must JUST SAY NO.

Take a pledge right now to never give money to the RNC again. Ask your friends and family to pledge as well.  We can no longer feed that beast, and we are voting NO TO RAISING THE DEBT CEILING ON THE RNC.  Learn how to live on a budget, fellas, and stay away from our wallets.

The Republican National Congressional Committee (RNCC) is even worse, absolutely shameless in providing access to legislators at exclusive meetings, resorts, and parties as long as you pay enough money in membership fees.  They are disgraceful as well and must be defunded.  How dare these people squawk about out of control spending?  These are not the good guys. The RNC and the RNCC are the absolute epitome of political hypocrisy.  And they now pander to "grassroots activists," to fund their squandering, to pay for parties for rich people?  I don't think so.

Save your money.  It's really hard to part with hard earned cash.  Tithe to your church, help your family, your neighbor.  If a terrific grassroots candidate shows up, check him/her out relentlessly before you send your $20.  But whatever you do, do not give another penny to the RNC or the NRCC.  Twenty-three million in debt;what a disgrace.

Here's the next website you should add to your favorites:  www.opensecrets.org. In this terrific resource you can find out who is taking money from whom, what political parties are spending, and where the money goes. Also, to find out who is contributing to your representatives go to www.fec.gov.

We need to show these people how to manage a budget.  God bless, and keep the faith in yourself, your community, and your country.
