TO ALL ALUMNI:
Thank you for your expressed interest. We are pleased that you have risen to the occasion to make a significant impact in the lives of current Talladega College students. This venture entails your time and effort in becoming a mentor to our students through lectures and/or classroom visits. Students today are visually impacted because of technological advances; this is the "believe when I see it" generation.
Your help through speaking to our students will significantly contribute to and enhance the educational experience of our students. Students need to hear and see your story of survival and success. This will inspire them to continue, complete their education, and become contributing world citizens.
Please contact the office of the Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs and the Office of Alumni Affairs with the available dates and times that you can come to the College to meet with students. We will be responding to the Alumni that sent in questions and concerns very soon. If you haven't responded yet, please do. Your Alma Mater and the future generations need YOU!
As a reminder or in case you are not aware of the opportunity, the Office of the Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs is inviting the Alumni of Talladega College to participate in the Alumni Lecture Series and Mentor Program designed to link students and Alums who have common career interest.
The lectures will be scheduled twice per month with the topics of discussion covering a broad range of issues. Alums will be asked to send their available dates and lecture topics to the Alumni Affairs Office. The presentations will be scheduled and arrangements made to accommodate needed space and equipment. Notices will be posted around the campus.
The Mentor Program will be implemented in a number of ways. For example, students in Business Administration will be assigned to Alums who are in the business areas and students on the pre-med track will be connected with Alums in healthcare. A list of all majors will be posted for Alums to consider. We will use all available technology to facilitate communication between the students and the mentor (e-mail, Facebook, telephone conference, face-to-face meetings and webcam). Distance will not be a barrier for making the Mentor Program or Alumni Lecture Series a success.
Mr. Seddrick Hill, Director of Alumni Affairs, will serve as a liaison for this initiative. I urge all Alums interested in participating in either the Lecture Series or the Mentor Program to forward their contact information to Mr. Hill at sthill@talladega.edu or call him at (256) 761-6205. I hope each of you will consider this important program for our students. This is a great chance for the Alumni to share their resources and expertise with their Alma Mater.
