The Science of Drying
Water Damaged Property

Restoring structural property and contents affected by water damage must be done quickly and thoroughly. The clean up may be much more than what is visible.

Water damage can result from many factors, faulty sump pump, leaking roof, rusted water heater, burst pipe, ice dams, dishwasher or washing machine. If not restored quickly, secondary damage will begin, such as mold and mildew which causes biological contamination.

Carpeting, wallboard, appliances, electronics and furniture can be ruined at once, even with just an inch of water. A severe storm or deeper flood may add damage to ducts, heaters and air conditioners, roofing, private sewage and well systems, utilities and foundations.

The Science of Drying, also called Psychrometry, helps restoration providers, customers and insurance companies monitor and verify a sound repair strategy.

Water Damage Do's & Dont's

  • Do prevent electrocution by shutting off power to all flooded areas.
  • Do shut off the water source of the flood.
  • Do protect furnishings by moving them out of the water.
  • Do open doors, dresser drawers, windows, and anything else that will allow air to circulate.
  • Don't use your household vacuum to remove water.
  • Don't use electrical appliances while standing in a wet area.
  • Don't wait to call for help, the longer you wait the more damage will occur.
