Meet, Eat & Greet Local: Bill KurtisBill Kurtis
12-2 p.m. · Thursday, January 14 · Corner Cooks, 507 Chestnut Street, Winnetka

Meet Bill Kurtis, author, journalist, and rancher. In 1966, after being recognized for his 24-hour coverage of a devastating tornado in Topeka, Kansas, Kurtis was hired as a field reporter and later anchor of the Channel Two News in Chicago. During his career as a network newsman, Kurtis covered such notable stories as the Richard Speck murders and the Charles Manson trial. He is also credited with breaking the Agent Orange story and the story of Amerasian children in Vietnam.

In 1990, Kurtis began producing programs for the A&E Network, including the award-winning shows like Investigative Reports, American Justice and Cold Case Files.  Kurtis also provides satirical narration for the feature film comedy Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy.  Kurtis has received numerous awards for his work, including over twenty Emmys and the Illinois Broadcasters Association 1998 Hall of Fame Award.

Since 2005, Kurtis has become heavily involved in raising grass-fed beef at his 10,000-acre ranch in southeastern Kansas. While looking for innovative uses for his ranch, Kurtis learned about the health and environmental benefits of grass-fed beef and founded Tallgrass Beef Company.

On January 14, Kurtis will discuss his career, as well as his new book Prairie Table Cookbook, over lunch at Corner Cooks.  Tickets are available from Corner Cooks for $25.  To make a reservation, call (847) 441-0134 or email your name and phone number to betsy@cornercooks.com
