Dine & Discuss
Humboldt's GiftCharlie Citrine, suffering from steadily worsening troubles with women, career, and life in general, receives unexpected aid and comfort in the form of a belated bequest from his onetime friend and mentor, the poet Von Humboldt Fleisher. The relationship between these two men is chronicled in Saul Bellow's Pulitzer prize winning novel, Humboldt's Gift

Dr. Joseph Alulis, lecturer from the University of Chicago Graham School, will discuss his thoughts of Humboldt's Gift at the Winnetka-Northfield Public Library's Dine and Discuss luncheon on Tuesday, July 28.  The program will take place from noon to 2 p.m. at Corner Cooks, 507 Chestnut Street in Winnetka.  Tickets are $25, which includes lunch. To reserve a ticket, call (847) 441-0134.

Dr. Alulis has co-edited two books, Tocqueville's Defense of Human Liberty and Shakespeare's Political Pageant, and published essays on both of these thinkers as well as an essay on Lincoln, and another on the film maker Whit Stillman.  He is currently at work on an essay on Dostoevsky's "Grand Inquisitor."
