FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

1995 KAWASAKI KX250
THE DEFENDING CHAMP NEVER RESTS

NAME: KX250
DESIGNATION: KX250-K2
POSITIONING: Closed-course racing motorcycle

Not one to rest on its laurels, the 1995 Kawasaki KX250 didn't sit still in the off-season. Like a true winning athlete, it worked hard to bulk up on muscle and fine-tune its aerobic abilities to stay one step ahead of the competition.

For faster starts and blazing corner exits, this muscle comes in the form of a stronger punch in the lower reaches of the powerband. This feat was accomplished by juggling the important trio of cylinder internals, carburetion specs and ignition mapping.

Motocross racing requires finesse as well as brute power. To further the KX250's ability to withstand punishing jumps, thread together a tough set of  whoops, and rail through the corners, its steel perimeter frame has been strengthened and its suspension reworked. Changes to the internals of its front fork and the single-shock rear suspension improve ride quality to offer fewer distractions to this focused athlete. New brake pads at both ends and a new rear brake caliper help get things stopped to change directions.

A final preparation for title defense came in the way of a new set of duds-- nothing intimidates the competition more than seeing the defending champ with a bold new look to start the season off fresh.

The 1995 Kawasaki KX250 is now leaner, meaner, prettier, and set to tear up motocross tracks once again.

1995 KX250 FEATURES: NEW FOR 1995

ENGINE/TRANSMISSION

Cylinder: Exhaust port timing has been changed to increase midrange and top-end power.

KIPS System:
Valve: One millimeter thicker exhaust port slide valve is now used to lower the port at low speeds and further boost low-end and midrange power by effectively  increasing the compression ratio when the valve is closed.
Sub exhaust ports: Six millimeters smaller to boost low-end power.
Governor: Activation system is now a ball lock type which activates the valve over a narrower (500rpm) range, for immediate throttle response from the depths of the stronger low end and midrange. The governor lever material and thickness has been changed for increased durability.

Cylinder head: Combustion chamber shape has been revised to broaden squish area for improved low-end and midrange power.

Compression ratio: The two above changes have netted an increase in compression which will improve throttle response in the basement. The variable ratio is now up to 9.0:1 at low speeds and 10.8:1 at high speeds rather than the previous model's 8.9:1 and 10.4:1.

Carburetor: Two additional float bowl vent hoses have been added to improve venting and reduce fuel starvation.

Ignition timing: Timing has been remapped to go along with the above-outlined porting changes.

Coil: New coil sends a spark that lasts twice as long as the previous unit.

Crankcase: Reed valve is now located four millimeters closer to the crank to increase crankcase compression for better low-end and midrange torque as well as improved throttle response. In addition, the rear engine mount has been beefed up.

Crankshaft: Crank has been rebalanced to reduce vibration transmitted to rider.

Clutch: New clutch release lever increases stroke by ten percent for improved clutch feel.

Exhaust system: Expansion chamber is now 100mm longer to boost low-end and midrange. Plus, more silencer packing equals less noise.

SUSPENSION/CHASSIS
Fork: Fork tubes of the 43mm Kayaba cartridge fork have been strengthened for added rigidity. Internally, a mid-speed compression damping valve has been added at the non-return valve. To further prevent bottoming at the end of the compression stroke, the oil lock piece has been lengthened 10mm while the taper has been shortened the same amount.

Shock: Two millimeter thicker piston will increase service life of the shock. To complement fork mods, the shock has been fully revalved.

Shock mounts: Upper mount has been strengthened. Lower mounting bracket is longer to increase torsional and vertical rigidity for improved traction and more predictable suspension movement.

UNI-TRAK®arm: Arm offers a more progressive suspension curve.

Brake pads: Front pads are made from a sintered metal material with a higher coefficient of friction than last year's. Rear pad material is changed to increase feel.

Rear brake caliper: Caliper and caliper holder are more rigid to further increase feel.

Brake pedal: An O-ring has been added to the brake pedal boss to keep out dust and dirt.

Handlebar:  Handlebar is now 7mm lower and the mounting dampers are made of a new material to reduce vibration.

Seat: New, longer-wearing and firmer (by 6 percent) foam is now under the cover.

Graphics: An updated graphic treatment compliments the above changes.
