New Eagles Installed at Convention

Several notable guests capped off their 2011 International Convention trips by joining the cause as the newest members of The Fraternal Order of Eagles. Recording artist Lee Greenwood, actor/comedian Tom Parks and special convention guest Dan Knight joined the Aerie while recording artist Louise Mandrell and special guest Julie Knight joined the Auxiliary. Greenwood and Mandrell performed at the Welcome to Orlando Show shortly after their installation as members of the organization, as did Parks.

Dan and Julie Knight, Iowa residents, were special guests of The Fraternal Order of Eagles Diabetes Research Center. They spent the week in Orlando sharing their story with other members. Julie, a 40-year diabetic, informed crowds of the difficulty of living with diabetes while Dan helped bring the voice of those living with diabetics to life. The couple inspired convention goers to continue to push forward to meet the $25 million goal set by the Eagles and continue the organization's quest to find a cure.

Rumford Falls Aerie #1248 Wins Child Advocacy Day Contest

The 3rd Annual Mountain Valley Kids Fest held by Rumford Falls, Maine, Aerie #1248 was awarded the Grand Prize for the 2010-2011 Child Advocacy Day Contest. Set up with help from the local health, police, fire and youth groups to promote better welfare for the children, the event drew a huge crowd and helped spread the good word of The Fraternal Order of Eagles.

Regional School Unit 10 helped provide area children with free bicycle helmets to help promote safe riding. Children were measured and fitted with proper helmets to insure the safest riding possible. Rumford police were on hand to upload identification for attendees into a national database while members of the Greater Rumford Community Center put on athletic demonstrations for guests.

Past Worthy President Fred Allen organized the event. As winners, Rumford Falls will receive a plaque commemorating their achievement and a $3,000 grant from the Jimmy Durante Children's Fund.
