By now, it's likely you are familiar with
William Dubin, a prolific California artist who has chosen to call Tucson home for the past five years. I've had the unique privilege of working closely with the artist in that time, and have made many visits to his studio. About two years ago I had the realization that we had, here in Tucson, a painter in the throes of a revelatory period of his career.
What I found particularly interesting was that this period was not only beneficial to the artist as he found himself discovering exciting new techniques for depicting his subject matter, but that the subject matter itself was revelatory to his viewers. Mr. Dubin, a newly minted Tucsonan, had fallen in love with our city's urban core, and has now revealed to us the beauty of our own city through a series of stellar watercolors depicting the Old Pueblo Trolley system and the 4th Avenue district. As a result, this body of work has
historical value, as many of the scenes that William Dubin so
artfully captured have already undergone noticeable change.
In March, we are devoting our entire gallery to this remarkable artist. So that you may fully enjoy the show, I am going to introduce you to one painting a week via email, roughly following the chronological development of this series, with a little commentary on each painting.
We know you are busy, and we appreciate allowing us to indulge ourselves with your time. Look for the first painting to arrive via email about this time next week.
Cheers!
