2011 Royal Wedding - Strategies to Optimise Revenue

Most hoteliers, particularly in London, will already be promoting their Royal Wedding packages and filling rooms, but the weeks before the event still need to be handled carefully in order to optimise revenue. Many overseas visitors will take part in the celebrations on 29 April.

For UK residents, those who were quick to make their holiday requests will get an 11-day break between Easter and 1st May by taking just three days off work. In the following article, Institute of Hospitality Business Partner and Revenue Management experts IDeaS provide advice on the best ways to optimise bookings in the lead up to the big event.

Kaizen Philosophy at Master Innholders Conference

Four undergraduates of the University of Surrey highlighted the Kaizen philosophy during a very polished performance at the Master Innholder's Conference in London last month.

Mark Lowman, James Matthews, Carmen Rademacher and Benjamin Veale won the Master Innholder's 'Hotelschool Facebook Competition' with their thought-provoking entry about the application of the Kaizen philosophy to hospitality management.

Not the Bates Motel

UK budget hotel chain Travelodge is employing three convicted murderers at one of its hotels in York. The three women have been given work by Travelodge as part of their rehabilitation, the Ministry of Justice has confirmed.  Two of the women work as room cleaners and the third is a receptionist. The Ministry of Justice said prisoners could be released to work only after they passed a rigorous risk assessment.

World Wine Consumption to Increase

World wine consumption will continue to grow towards 2014 driven by the US, China and Russia, according to data released last month by VINEXPO and The International Wine and Spirit Research (IWSR).

VINEXPO, the international wine and spirits trade exhibition, takes place in Bordeaux, France, from 19 to 23 June 2011.

East of England Hotels Lift Performance in 2010

Outside London, chain hotels in the East and South East of England reported the biggest year-on-year improvements in revenue per available room (RevPAR) during 2010, according to TRI Hospitality Consulting's Regional Performance Report.

Making the Most of Online Distribution

The Institute of Hospitality and its Business Partner Rate Tiger gave a free breakfast seminar on online distribution and revenue management at the Hospitality 2011 trade show in Birmingham, UK, last month.
