Dear ,
Welcome to your December e-newsletter which contains useful guidance on beating the impending VAT increase in the UK, plus free access to expert lessons on five key internet marketing techniques.
Don't miss your winter issue of Hospitality magazine which will be coming through your letter boxes in the next few days. It includes a special supplement celebrating the 30th anniversary of Hospitality magazine.
Although the world has changed enormously since 1980, what is striking when looking through copies of the magazine from 1980 - apart from the wide lapels, curtain-material dresses and questionable hair-styles - is that many of the topics discussed such as staff turnover, women in management, the future of school meals, and hotel expansion in China, are still very much on today's agendas.
In the UK, with a new Conservative government in power, a recessionary climate and a substantial programme of spending cuts, one could argue that there are also wider similarities between 1980 and 2010.
We hope you enjoy reading your special supplement which is packed full of data, analysis, and discussion of the changes that the hospitality industry has undergone over the last 30 years.
We hope you find eNews interesting and informative. If you have any comments or ideas for articles, please share them with us by emailing: [email protected].
Best wishes,
The eNews Team

Beat the VAT Increase
|
With the onset of the VAT rise, how can chefs and caterers manage the inevitable price rises whilst keeping valued customers happy?
The standard rate of VAT in the UK is currently 17.5 per cent but will be increased to 20 per cent on 4 January 2011.
Announced by Chancellor George Osbourne on 22 June 2010, the move is designed to raise 13bn a year, in a bid to tackle Britain's record debts.

Employing Students over Christmas
|
The Christmas Holidays are nearly upon us and there will be an influx of students working over that period. In anticipation, the UK's HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) is offering you some information regarding the employment of students and the P38(S) form that students have to sign to confirm they are students before they are paid by their employers when they work for them during the holidays and so they don't have tax deducted. Employers can download the forms from the HMRC website.
