New Hospitality Assured Standard Launched

Hospitality Assured, the service and business excellence standard owned and developed by the Institute of Hospitality, re-launched on 4 November with a new, more flexible approach to accreditation.
The business benefits of the Hospitality Assured programme are recognised across the world. In recent months, it has been adopted by the entire estate of Thistle Hotels in the UK. Through PRO INVEST, its international investment fund, the European Union recognises its power and is funding the Hospitality Assured Standard in tourism businesses across the Caribbean. In Qatar, the HAMAD Medical Corporation is putting its hospitality services based in all major hospitals through the assessment.

The British Hospitality Association says that the UK hospitality industry, which currently employs over 2.4m people, has the potential to generate a further 236,000 jobs by 2015 in a report published last month
But introducing its report "Creating jobs in Britain - A Hospitality Economy Proposition" at a reception at the House of Commons last month, Chief Executive Ufi Ibrahim FIH said that global competition represented a real threat to British hospitality and tourism.

IOH Promotes Training in Lagos, Nigeria

Nigeria-based members of the Institute of Hospitality, and their guests, attended a seminar last month at the Westown Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos. The event was hosted by Senator Tokunbo ("Toks") Afikuyomi, the Lagos State Commissioner for Tourism and Trevor Ward FIH, the Institute's Lagos-based Ambassador for Africa.
Delegates heard from two speakers: Peter Pedersen, the General Manager for the InterContinental Hotel Lagos, and Belinda Nwosu MIH, Lecturer at Wavecrest College of Hospitality in Lagos.
