Trip Advisor

The better your rating on Trip Advisor, the better your RevPAR is likely to be, according to the initial findings of research at Cornell University.

Yet for some operators the big concern about Trip Advisor has been "false negative" reviews from disgruntled ex-employees or competitors. But this situation has now improved says the British Hospitality Association (BHA).

"The BHA met TripAdvisor via a HOTREC meeting earlier this year and we have had two BHA meetings with them since. A system has now been introduced whereby hotels registered with Trip Advisor can advise online of fraudulent reviews and TA's fraud squad can deal more quickly, so progress has been made," said BHA deputy chief executive Martin Couchman during the series of summer regional management briefings hosted by the Institute of Hospitality and Master Innholders.

Recent research has found that too many tourism businesses risk being victims of internet crime.  90% of B&Bs in Wales that offer Wi-Fi to guests, for example, do so without the need for a password or an agreement to terms and conditions, according to research by web safety group E-Crime Wales.

Women - A nightmare to Work For?

A survey recently undertaken by recruitment firm UKJobs.net found that two thirds of respondents, both men and women, preferred to be managed by men.

According to the poll of 3,000 employees, which was picked up by media around the world,  women bosses are seen as a nightmare to work for as they are "loose cannons" and too "sharp tongued."

Nearly two thirds (63%) of the women surveyed and three-quarters of the men said they would prefer to be managed by a man.

Worst Regulation? Copyright Licensing

In our August newsletter (Issue 16 eNews) we provided a guide to the complex process of obtaining the correct music, DVD and TV licences for your business.

It now emerges that copyright licensing is the most hated regulation applied to accommodation providers, according to an online forum on Visit Britain's Accommodation Know-How website.
