Dear ,

The Institute of Hospitality 2010 Annual Lunch and Hospitality Assured Awards will be held on the 8th June 2010 at the Royal Garden Hotel, Kensington, London.

The lunch, which includes a Champagne reception and a three-course meal, is an excellent opportunity to meet and dine with fellow professionals from the hospitality, leisure and tourism industries.

The reception (12pm) and lunch (1pm) follow the Annual General Meeting (11am) to which all corporate members are invited. Booking arrangements will be announced in the next eNewsletter.

On a more serious note, pregnancy and childbirth remain a significant cause of death for women of childbearing age and their babies from around the world. Sadly, many of these deaths are easily preventable.

In response, The White Ribbon Alliance (WRA) for Safe Motherhood is holding a 'Global Dinner Party' Campaign on 8th March 2010. Maternal and new born health is the focus of the global fund-raising initiative. Hospitality venues including hotels, cafes and restaurants are encouraged to obtain donations from diners on 8th March through an extra optional service or cover charge. The WRA can provide table cards for use in your establishment, which explain the Global Dinner Party and provide diners with further information about this worthy campaign.Read More>>

TruckloadCaring and Sharing by the Truckload
Economic and environmental pressures are making major supermarkets and food producers share space on their trucks to save fuel and cut pollution.

Companies including Asda, Unilever, Sainsbury's and Nestle have found specific geographical opportunities to share truckload deliveries and minimise non-profitable journeys made by empty trucks.

StressStress! Who Needs It!
In a recent online survey by the Institute of Hospitality we asked you if stress ever had a negative impact on your performance at work. Nearly two thirds (62%) chose 'sometimes' from a choice of six answers ranging from 'never' to 'all the time.'  Some of you left comments, which included: "stress leaves me tired and less productive" and "usually stress comes with bad planning ahead, and that in turn happens when everyone else is stressed."

The influence of a new 'third wave' of artisan coffee outlets on the UK's branded coffee shop sector will be explored at the Allegra UK Coffee Leader Summit in April.

Quality independent outlets are springing up on market stalls, mobile vans or sharing space with retailers.

Coping with Sudden Death at Hospitality Facilities

Sudden deaths and suicides can affect hospitality employees, as highlighted by the current murder inquiry into the death of a 32-year-old man, found by a housekeeper at the Landmark Hotel, London.

The impact of sudden deaths and attempted suicides on all who come in contact with them should not be underestimated. The Institute of Hospitality has produced a management guide on this subject.
