Student Money Management Programs Making Impact on Student Credit Card Solicitations Toledo, Ohio-TheBlade.Com highlights Bowling Green State University and University of Toledo's strong campus commitment to student financial stewardship, student credit card debt prevention, and the new law that affects college students across the country-Credit Card Accountability, Responsibility, and Disclosure Act of 2009. This will prohibit credit card issuers from signing up anyone under the age of 21 that does not have the ability to make payments or lacks a co-signer. Several universities already have restriction policies in place to reduce credit card companies from targeting students. The Blade list a study by Sallie Mae, which reflects 30 percent of students put tuition on their credit cards, an increase of 24 percent since 2004.
Town of Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl Driving Force for Tuition Tax and states "the tax isn't just legal and fair, but essential".
Article by Rich Lord with the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette explains the reaction from university officials in Pittsburgh was fierce to the idea of implementing a tuition tax and viewed as an attack on college access and affordability. As budget pressures placed upon universities and their host cities mount, Town/Gown economic solutions and problem solving discussions will be put to the test. Strong messages from opposition are clear that Pittsburgh does not want to be known as the first university-city to launch a tuition tax.

While Fraternities and Sororities Embrace Alcohol Restrictions More Parties Shift to Local Rental Property Roanoke VA-The Roanoke Times reports on alcohol use restrictions results in pushing fraternity parties into rental neighborhoods with little or no supervision. University officials as well as fraternity officers are forced to make changes for safety and institutional liability. Alcohol and Enforcement issues have several universities revisiting the debate of the drinking age on college campuses.

2. Mansfield, CT - The director of the Department of Building & Housing Inspection for the town of Mansfield Connecticut asks,"Our town is home of the University of Connecticut. Like many similar communities we are struggling with quality of life issues for both student and non-student citizens. One enforcement tool we are exploring is the use of a Tenant Registry to help limit over crowding of dwelling units. Any information you could provide on this topic would be greatly appreciated."
