Students Lend A Hand To Community SEATTLE, WA - The Daily of the University of Washington reports that the Husky Neighborhood Assistants program has grown from two to six assistants providing resources for students living off campus and answering tenant questions ease the transition to off campus housing, and build a community among students and permanent residents in the area. They also try to help facilitate a two-way dialogue between students and the neighbors, and neighbors and the university.

Students Fight Rode Island Police PracticesNARRAGANSETT, RI - A report by the Associated Press and WPRI tells about city police citing more than 300 homes since 2005 under a town law aimed at curbing rowdy gatherings - especially among off-campus students from the nearby University of Rhode Island - and helping officers and neighbors more easily flag problem properties. A large orange sticker is placed by police on homes that host raucous parties. In opposition to the practice, students have filed a federal suit comparing the stickers to degrading "scarlet letters". |

2 Students Killed in Off Campus Fire ROCHESTER, NY - The Sun Journal reports on an off-campus fire that killed two Rochester Institute of Technology students and injured a third early. The fire department is looking into any number of human-error type of situations - unattended candles or cooking, careless smoking that may have caused the blaze. At the same time, The National Fire Protection Association has posted Campus and Dorm Fire safety Tips for college students.

Florida Company Makes Campus Moving GreenerTriple Pundit writes about MoveGreen, a Florida-based startup that provides SmartPacks, a reusable, recyclable, and recycled alternative to cardboard boxes. MoveGreen's process is simple: It delivers SmartPacks to clients' homes or offices prior to their move and picks the packs up after the clients unpack. MoveGreen says its services prevent waste and are convenient and cost efficient (SmartPacks cost no more than cardboard boxes). |

Gainesville, FL is researching "soft" bar closings. Bars stop serving alcohol at a certain time, then stays open without alcohol for a period of time. Gainesville PD is looking for communities that have these regulations, pros/cons, town gown issues, police, & business impacts etc.
