College Town Relations Continues to Receive National Attention
Dear College Town Leaders, I hope that everyone has been enjoying and benefiting from the ITGA newsletters and communication services. College towns and town/gown relations continue to receive national attention. The New York Times published an article this weekend, Slump Revives Town-Gown Divide Across U.S. The NYT spends alot of effort in the article writing about a few negative town-gown issues around the US including an ongoing divide between Harvard and the neighborhood of North Allston, but spends little time looking at numerous positive town-gown programs and efforts occurring throughout the nation. The ITGA newsletter, The News Stand, has featured numerous articles since September documenting positive relations being furthered due to economic conditions. We will be bringing this to the NYT's attention and inviting them to the 4th Annual Best Practices Conference to see for themselves. Responses to this article have already begun in local news and news blogs; The Education Optimist and the Yale Daily News - Cross Campus .
In other news, please be looking for a new format in our monthly newsletter, twice weekly news and ITGA web site. We have been hard at work adding new features and a new look to our communication services and plan to have all introduced during this month.
The ITGA is assembling a growing list of partners and supporters working to strengthen town and gown relations across the world. We sincerely hope that you will elect to partner with these schools, cities and businesses by joining the ITGA and you may do so as simply at clicking here. This will take you to the ITGA membership web site. For further information, please feel free to contact me at 864.643.4199 or cboyles@town-gown.net.
Sincerely, Chip Boyles
