ITGA IS CREATED, September 15, 2008.
City of Clemson, SC, Mayor, Larry Abernathy and Clemson University President Jim Barker signed the founding documents creating an international non-profit organization serving colleges and college communities in areas of leadership building, resource assistance and communication. The International Town & Gown Association was born on September 15, 2008 with the acceptance of the Clemson Joint City University Advisory Board agreeing to serve as the organizing Board of Directors until the Founding Board of Directors can be filled.

Murray, KY and Murray State University selected to host the 4th Annual Best Practices in Building University/City Relations Conference.
Murray, Kentucky and Murray State University have been selected to host the 4th Annual Best Practices Conference for University/City Relations. The theme of the 2009 conference scheduled for June 1-4, 2009 is Teaming Across Campus and Community. Murray will follow other college town locations for this conference including Fort Collins, CO, Gainesville, FL and College Station, TX. ITGA Welcomes Four New Founding Members
Joining Clemson University and the City of Clemson as Founding Members are Colorado University and the City of Boulder, CO as well as Murray State University and the City of Murray, KY. Founding members receive lifetime recognition as founding members, twelve membership representatives and will hold permanent Board of Directors seats for the initial three years of the organization. Executive Director, Chip Boyles, Speaks to Groups at ICMA and NLC Conferences
The ITGA Executive Director presented to two national audiences during the months of September and November. In September, Chip Boyles and Board Member, Rick Cotton spoke at the International City/County Managers Association Annual Conference held in Richmond, VA. Mr. Boyles and Mr. Cotton spoke to a number of City Managers and Assistant City Managers from college communities about college town issues and opportunities and how the ITGA is working to offer assistance to muncipal and academic leaders alike.
In November, ITGA staff exhibited a booth and spoke to approximately eighty Mayors and other elected officials at the National League of Cities Conference held in Orlando, FL. Executive Director Boyles was a guest speaker for the planning committee and general membership of the University Communities Council of the NLC.

ITGA Offers Twice-Weekly e-News, List-serve and On-line Resource Library.
The ITGA is currently offering complimentary twice-weekly e-newsletters of college and college town news from publications across the world. Additionally, a list-serve e-mail communication system has been established allowing college and college town leaders to communicate by group e-mail. Subscribers may present a question or issue to be distributed to hundreds of other college community leaders. Responses are distributed back to the group or back to the individual if so desired. Topics and discussions are filed for future reference. The ITGA web site is also building a library of papers, presentations, news articles and other rsources of college town materials. Subscribers may use this resource for sample ordinances, policies, resolutions, etc. The ITGA would welcome copies of any documents you would like shared with peers and fellow college community leaders. Any one or all services may currently be requested by members and non-members by contacting info@town-gown.net.
