| Digital Retinal Imaging |
Emmerich Vision Care is pleased to offer digital retinal photography. Our new state of the art Canon system offers 15.1 megapixels of resolution. Dr. Emmerich is proud to be one of the first Optometrists in the area to offer you the most sophisticated and advanced primary eye care retinal evaluation tool in the marketplace today.
Using digital technology, we capture a high resolution picture of your retina and provide you with a more accurate diagnostic plan. As a patient, you are more empowered as you observe your retinas on our high definition monitor. Also, when retinal pictures are taken over a number of years, our advanced software can analyze trends in order to detect diseases at a much earlier stage.
We strongly recommend that all of our patients receive this test as a baseline. It is especially important for those patients who have a personal or family history of diabetes, high blood pressure, glaucoma or macular degeneration. Baseline screening photos are now being offered at a very reasonable cost. If there is a medical diagnosis such as diabetes, your insurance company may cover the cost.

| Diabetic Retinopathy |
This image shows a poorly controlled diabetic patient. You can see retinal hemorrhages due to leaky blood vessels. Over time this causes a decrease in vision that could lead to blindness.
Although diabetes is one of the leading causes of blindness, it does not have to be. With good blood sugar control and routine eye care, diabetics can maintain good vision throughout their lifetime.
I believe in educating my diabetic patients during their annual dilated exam. Our new imaging technology is a valuable tool for both patient and doctor. |
