From the Director:
KDL Delivers Technology Expertise Despite Tough Economy
Greetings!
A recent study by the Pew Research Center's Internet & American Life Project has shown that the number of Americans who own at least one digital reading device jumped from 18 percent in December to 29 percent in January -- one in every four of us! At KDL, we don't need a study to know that many of our patrons received an eReader for Christmas and are busy putting them to good use! Total visits to our eBook site in December increased by 54% when compared to November. We are thrilled to offer the largest eBook collection owned by a single library in Michigan and are so pleased that our patrons are taking advantage of this wonderful and convenient service.
If you are having trouble downloading an eBook or have questions about your Kindle or Nook, we would love to help! Check out our downloading instructions, frequently asked questions or technical troubleshooting guides, or stop by your local branch for assistance. We also invite you to attend one of our upcoming Gadget Petting Zoos to learn how to download free music, eBooks and eAudiobooks from KDL's digital collection.
Introducing new technologies to our patrons is one example of how KDL remains committed to providing you with the highest possible level of services, materials and programming. It is notable that this is happening at a time when economic challenges pose serious issues for many families, businesses and even our libraries. Despite our challenges, our goal is to use whatever funds we have wisely, in order to make KDL the best it can be. We will continue to be there for you during these tough times, and we ask that you do the same for us. If the library has been a blessing to you and your family in some way, we would be most grateful if you would take one of these simple steps to show your support:
- Donate to the KDL Fund. No gift is too small!
- Write your legislator. Your message can be as simple as: "I love my library. Replace, don't erase, the personal property tax."
- Be an advocate. Tell your friends and family about Kent District Library, the great services we provide, and what the library means to you.
- Continue to use the library. Whether you come through our doors or use services on our website, the more you use KDL, the more you prove that libraries remain an invaluable community resource.
Thank you for your support.
Lance Werner, Director
Kent District Library
