Grow Your Mind @ KDL

GrowingResearch shows that birth through age five is the most important time for children to develop their brains and attitudes towards reading and learning. At KDL, it's our goal to provide activities and resources that educate and stimulate the imagination of our youngest learners. From our KDLville interactive learning centers to our Early Childhood Essentials classes for adults, we're committed to providing parents and caregivers the tools necessary to help children succeed in school and in life.

This season, we invite you and your child to explore the resources available at your local KDL branch. With these, as well as a variety of activities for all ages, it's never too early to Grow Your Mind @ KDL

Early Childhood Essentials Classes

ChildKDL's Early Childhood Essentials (ECE) classes provide parents and caregivers helpful early childhood development tips and information. Participants can receive state-required professional development hours or just come to learn something new. Topics include "Stress and Parenting," "From Rattles to Writing," and more. Engaging, educational, and fun, KDL's ECE classes will provide you with the tools and knowledge you need to help your child succeed.

KDL also offers free off-site classes to organizations in the KDL service area. To schedule a workshop, call 784-2007 or email program_outreach@kdl.org.

Libraries: An Investment in the Future

With the state legislature preparing to review the proposed 2011-2012 Fiscal Year Budget, libraries continue to be the target of significant budget cuts. However, as we transition from a manufacturing economy to a knowledge-based economy, we believe libraries are a critical component of this transition. Each day, thousands of people utilize our services to find a job, learn a new skill, conduct business, and borrow materials they might not otherwise be able to afford. In an economy where knowledge is the key to success, libraries offer equal access to the tools and resources needed to excel.

We encourage you to express your opposition to reduced funding for libraries by contacting your local legislators and letting your voice be heard. Your advocacy can help to ensure not only the success of the library, but the success of our local economy as well.
