| Max and Ruby Parties | |
Experience a book series come to life! The parties, based on these lovable characters, will be filled with tons of book-related bunny excitement. Children (ages 6 and under) with a caregiver will have a blast while developing multiple early literacy skills.
Interactive activities such as bunny games and bunny crafts cultivate print motivation which plants a positive attitude towards books in a young child; this is a vital skill for the early or pre-reader. By talking about the events in the stories you stimulate narrative skills, while the book readings develop print awareness.
So check our online events calendar or call 784-2007 to find out which Max and Ruby Party is the most convenient for you! Spend some time bonding with your family and having bunny-filled fun!

TICK TOCK
Tick tock, tick tock
I'm a little cuckoo clock
Tick tock, tick tock
Now I'm striking one o'clock
CUCKOO
This is a great rhyme to sing with babies (older kids can have a lot of fun as well!)
As you say the rhyme, sway your baby from side to side. When you get to the cuckoo, lift your baby in the air. Variations: young babies can be gently rocked, older babies can be held under their arms and swayed from side to side, and older toddlers can stand on their own and rock back and forth and jump for the cuckoo.
Rhymes teach children so much. In this rhyme, children are learning phonological awareness through the rhyming words. In addition, your child's center of gravity is being developed through the rocking and swaying.

| Learning with Crafts |

Young children are constantly learning and developing. One way that they learn is through sensory exploration with their hands. There are all kinds of fun crafting experiences you can have with a child using simple recipes you can make a home like pudding paint, oatmeal dough, or play dough. Working with their hands allows children to explore texture, create shapes, and build hand strength. It can help them increase their vocabulary when you discuss how something feels (smooth, cold, rough) or talk about the shapes or letters you can paint or form. Check here for links to recipes to make at home or try this easy "Fruity Putty" recipe:
1 small package sugar-free fruit-flavored gelatin 2 cups flour 1 cup salt 4 tbs. cream of tartar 2 cups boiling water 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
Mix the dry ingredients in a pan. Add boiling water and vegetable oil. Stir over medium-high heat until the mixture forms a ball. Place the ball on wax paper to cool. Store in an airtight container.
Cut the fruit picture from the gelatin box and paste it to the lid. Use different flavors to make all different colors and scents.

Stomp, Dinosaur, Stomp! By Margaret Mayo
This is a great new dinosaur picture book! Margaret Mayo uses her signature paper collage to create brilliantly colorful illustrations. Each two page spread includes a different breed of dinosaur, from "Mighty Tyrannosaurus" to "Immense Diplodocus" to "Fantastic Stegosaurus", all of your favorite dinosaurs are here. For each dinosaur there are four or five lines extolling that particular dinosaur's characteristics and actions. For instance, "Mighty Tyrannosaurus loved stomp, stomp, stomping, gigantic legs striding, enormous jaws opening..." Your child will be jumping off the couch to try out some of these moves. Print Motivation is the early literacy skill that encourages a positive connection between your child and books. This picture book definitely fits the bill!
