It's Library Card Sign-Up Month!

Library CardSeptember is Library Card Sign-up Month -- a time when libraries across the country remind parents that a library card is the most important school supply of all. At KDL, we want to put a library card in the hands of all area students so they can take advantage of the wonderful services and resources the library has to offer.

Summer Reading Success

Summer ReadingThe 2009 Summer Reading Club program has come to an end and we're excited to announce that this was our most successful year yet! 21,248 children and teens participated in this year's program. That's almost 1 out of every 5 youth living in Kent County! Teens alone read over 71,000 books on their way to complete the program and over 8,000 young children reached their reading goal.

Congratulations to all of this year's Summer Reading Club participants!
Celebrate Hispanic Heritage

HispanicJoin us in celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month, September 15 through October 15, and discover the rich history of the Hispanic community. This annual celebration begins each September on the anniversary of independence for five Latin American countries: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua.

We invite you to explore this exciting culture and check out some of KDL's Hispanic Heritage resources, including a variety of booksmovies and music, as well as our Spanish language tools and resources. Also, be sure to check out our Fiesta en tu Biblioteca! event on September 20.
Read a Banned Book

bannedKDL invites you to celebrate your freedom to read during Banned Books Week, September 20 to 26. Observed each year during the last week of September, and celebrated nationwide, Banned Books Week reminds us all not to take our democratic right to read for granted.

From J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series to The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain, the list of banned books is extensive. For a list of the most frequently banned books in recent years, click here.
