READ ALL ABOUT IT! Get Organized! receives a $5,000 award from the Women's Business Council Southwest (WBCS).
Each year, one or more certified women owned business is selected by the WBCS to receive the Lillie Knox Investing for Growth Award. The recipients are certified WBE (Women Business Enterprise) members who have identified a critical business need that if met, will support the growth and development of the business.
I was honored to receive this award on Thursday, September 6, at the 2012 WBCS Harvesting Partnership held at the Hyatt Regency DFW.
When I look back and see where I started, I am filled with gratitude for what the Lord has allowed me to achieve. I literally woke up one morning and decided to start my business. The name of my business came to me in a matter of minutes, and within a few hours we had purchased our domain name: Get Organized!
As we branch out with our new Business Organizing and Unpacking Services, Get Organized! will continue to be the leading professional organizing company in the DFW area.
I am most grateful to have been chosen to receive this award.
Humbly,

Chores for Kids
Having trouble getting your kids to do their chores? Looking for an easy way to remind them? Here is a great solution to help your kids remember what is expected and have some fun with their chores. Create a system to hang "chore cards" in each child's room or a central location in the house. Print chore instruction cards, have them laminated, punch a hole in the top corner, and hang them from a wall hook. They can be colorful and fun, include pictures, and be personalized with your child's name.
Save the cards on the computer and rotate the jobs weekly/monthly. You can make the instructions as detailed as necessary, depending on the age of each child. This is a sure way to give your kids more responsibilities and give mom less to do!

A House That Cleans Itself?
Have you ever thought about the many costs of not being organized? I am currently reading a book written by someone who had always struggled with organizing...The House That Cleans Itself, by Mindy Starns Clark.
Ms. Clark says,"I have struggled most of my life with messiness: ignoring it, trying to conquer it, surrendering to it, fighting it, feeling ashamed by it, giving up on it, trying again and again to conquer it. The struggle has drained my energy, my self esteem, my relationships, my resources, and has kept me from a number of things I would have otherwise been able to do." She has some great ideas about how to change your environment to make it easier to stay organized.
Here are examples from the book about how to adapt the environment to compensate for and/or eliminate the behavior.
1. Draw a floor plan of your house including the rooms in it, then add the yard and an image of your car. No need to be an artist - just have fun with it.
2. Define each of your spaces. Is the dining room used for dining? If you have a desk in the dining room, your space has two purposes.
3. Determine flow pattern through your home by numbering each space according to usage priority.
4. Decide your home base zone, figure out the space that most effects you emotionally, clean it up, and keep it that way!
Purge anything that is not defined by the space,
Clean everything until it shines,
Measure your spaces in the room for new organizing tools,
Put everything back neat and organized,
Commit to keeping this one space organized no matter what!
If you are struggling to get started with your organizing plan, and are ready to make a change, give Get Organized! a call and schedule a consultation. Our professional organizers can do the work for you and also give you strategies to help you keep your home organized. Let us help you create a house that cleans itself!

Organizing Tip
Trying to figure out what to do with those keys, bags, briefcases, purses, and endless other items coming in and out of the house?
This wonderful product from IKEA is a great solution to organize and store them. The IKEA Expedit can be used in any area of the home including the laundry room, entryway, kitchen, family room, garage; wherever your family members enter and exit your house. Have at least one cube per person and identify the owner with a name tag or label. Making it easy to return the items to the same place after each use helps everyone get out the door on time each morning. If you would rather hide the contents, or if there are a lot of small items in the cube, purchase baskets or colorful boxes that fit each square. If you need a larger storage area, look for the six cube size. |
