If you have noticed the tagline under our company logo, it states that we help people organize their homes and lives. It is my belief that often a cluttered home is a result of underlying problems within the family.We can do the physical work of organizing the home, but as a family coach, I also look for ways to strengthen the family. I know it is not Father's Day, but I have a suggestion for a father/son outing that is a must-do this weekend. Courageous is a movie about the important role fathers play in the lives of their children. The movie offers a personal challenge to men to step up and be the fathers God has called them to be. So make some time this weekend to send the guys off to the movies....I'm sending mine.
So, fall is finally in the air and Get Organized! recently completed the makeover from our annual fall contest, "Don't Fall into Closet Clutter", with 103.7 Lite FM and The Container Store. With a prize package of over $2000, our lucky winner was treated to a fantastic closet makeover. A few weeks ago I was asked to speak to 600 women at Gateway Community Church in Houston, Texas at a Ladies Night Out event themed Simplify. This was a wonderful honor and the women's ministry of the church went all out for its members and for me. They presented a skit before I spoke showing an average day in the life of a Ms. Clean and a Ms. Clutter. Ms. Clean eagerly took care of her home each day with birds chirping songs from Snow White, while Ms. Clutter could hardly muster the energy to push a mop and was lucky to get a shower at the end of each day. Two extremely opposite ways to live and although we would all choose to be Ms. Clean, we all do have our Ms. Clutter days.
It may be hard to believe, but our next newsletter will include organizing tips on getting ready for Christmas. To stay organized you must plan ahead and do a little at a time. Wouldn't it be great to have it all done by Thanksgiving so you can enjoy time with your family and friends through Christmas? Courageous the Movie
Every father should see this movie. It's about four fathers with one calling: To serve and protect...their family.
While they consistently give their best on the job, good enough seems to be all they can muster as dads. But they quickly discover that their current standard is missing the mark. When tragedy hits home, these men are left wrestling with their hopes, their fears, their faith, and their fathering.
This movie will give dads the encouragement and strength they need to not only run the race by being present, but the courage to truly invest their lives in their children.

In August we teamed up with 103.7 Lite FM and The Container Store to find the messiest closet in DFW. It was truly a blast to see all the entries that were submitted and know how much the makeover would mean to the winner.
After picking the top 10 messiest closet photos, listeners were able to vote for their favorite on the 103.7 Lite FM website. The winner was Laura in Allen, Texas. She won $1000 in elfa Shelving including delivery and installation, and two professional organizers from Get Organized! for the day to organize her closet.
As you can see from the photos above, the makeover would wow anyone. Not only did we get everything back in her closet, we made room for additional items. Good organization makes more efficient use of space, gives everything a home, and actually creates more room.

Organizing Photos
Are your photos thrown in a box, stuffed in envelopes, or stored here and there in your home? The image above shows the result of years of storing photos with no system of organization or way to find or enjoy the pictures. Under these conditions there is no order and many of the photos and negatives become bent and damaged. Photos are a most precious keepsake and yet we spend little or no time storing them for a lifetime. Photos that are not labeled and protected wind up in the hands of children who do not know who is in the picture or when it was taken. We take photos to capture our history for future generations, so we must be responsible for the organization of them now. If you make the decision to begin today, by Thanksgiving or Christmas you can impress your family with organized photos of all your treasured memories. Here are a few tools to consider when managing your photos. Shop around online or at a store such as Costco for a 3 in 1 digital photo scanner. This scanner will scan old slides, photos and negatives. There are a few to choose from but read the reviews to find the one that fits your budget and lifestyle. An online company that many organizers recommend is ScanDigital.com. They will do all the work for you and they offer a very safe way to track your photos every step of the way. Another option is to visit ArchivalUSA.com. They offer great products to store, organize and preserve your negatives, slides and photos. Everyone is different in how they want to manage their photo collection. Some people want to store them in scrapbooks on a shelf and allow family and friends to browse through them. Others want to save space and make everything digital. While others say that having pictures on computers or on DVDs are a great idea, they rarely take the time to view them. And the last group includes those who take lots of photos, but never take the time to organize them for future generations. As the months get cooler, consider taking the time to organize your photo collection so it can be shared and enjoyed. |
