The "GO" Newsletter

Is it possible for even an organizer to become overwhelmed with too many things to do? As organized as I am, there were some moments over the last month that pushed me to my limit.

But by using my great organizational skills, I was able to regroup and gain control over my life.

Since our last newsletter, the Get Organized! team has had a full schedule including the Home & Garden Show at Cowboys Stadium, a CBS 11 segment and the Visions: The Women's Expo in Irving, Texas.

At Cowboys Stadium, I shared the stage all weekend with stars  including: Ty Pennington of ABC's Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, Jason Cameron of DIY's Man Caves and Desperate Landscapes, Tera Hampton of HGTV's Design Star and Nicole Curtis on DIY Network's new series Rehab Addict.

We followed the Home Show with a weekend in Irving at Visions: The Women's Expo and the start of our first video blog called, "Everything Organized". See more on our blog below.

Even though summer is not officially here, we are already planning our contest for the fall. We've got something BIG in the works with a major morning show here in Dallas...full details coming.

As many of you know I have two blogs based on my experiences as a mom and an organizer. One is on RoleMommy.com out of New York called, "Organized Mom", and the other is "Everything Organized" on NorthTexasKids.com which also includes a monthly video. I encourage each of you to signup to receive the posting alerts so you can be notified when these blogs are up.

Don't forget to become a fan of Get Organized! on Facebook. We give away items, talk about upcoming events around town, and offer organizational tips and resources. Until I speak to you next month go and organize something.

Enjoy!

Cook up an Organized Kitchen

The kitchen is a place we all spend a lot of time, and keeping it organized is important. Why not make organizing your kitchen your spring project.

The first step is to select a section of your kitchen to keep useable for everyday as you begin the process. Then decide on another section to start organizing.

Take everything out of the cabinets first and sort them into categories. Have a labeled box or tote available for each category, such as donations,Tupperware, etc. If you are starting with a very disorganized kitchen, this step will save a lot of time when you are ready to put things back into the cabinets. This is also a great time to wipe down shelves and put in shelf paper too.

Here are some tools for organizing any kitchen.

  • Have a place to keep your take out menus and pizza coupons.
  • Try this for a great way to organize your cookie sheets and pans.
  • Gain extra space in your kitchen cabinet by getting the spices out and into these very cool magnetic spice holders that go on your refrigerator.
  • Consider putting your silverware in this caddy, keeping it out on the countertop for easy reach and extra space in your kitchen drawers.
Many of these organizing tools for the kitchen just happen to be on sale at The Container Store now through May 11th.

On Stage @ Cowboys Stadium

We had one of our best events ever at the Great Big Texas Home & Garden Show in March. Lorraine shared the stage for three days with Stars that included; Ty Pennington of ABC's Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, Jason Cameron of DIY's Man Caves and Desperate Landscapes, Tera Hampton of HGTV's Design Star and Nicole Curtis on DIY Network's new series Rehab Addict. Lorraine had a chance to visit with these stars and even take a few photos!

IKEA was a generous donor for our Get Organized! giveaways at this event. Four lucky winners received the stage furniture including the Besta entertainment center pictured above.

North Texas Kids is now a complete online magazine with interactive videos attached to many articles. It is a fast and easy way to consume information and see demos, samples, and how-to videos on your favorite family topics.

It also includes a list of events and activities around the DFW area for your family to enjoy. Summer is almost here and this online magazine will be your resource for family entertainment.

I am proud to announce my new monthly blog on the North Texas Kids website called, "Everything Organized". The focus is advice and resources for getting organized in all areas of your life. The latest blogs have focused on helping kids with ADD or ADHD find ways to get homework done and how parents can train their children to be organized. Pantry Organizing

Rev-A-Shelf takes conventional cabinetry and transforms it into a pantry on steroids. You can order the one pictured at www.Revashelf.com, but we found it cheaper at Lowe's.

Rev-A-Shelf has this and a lot of other options on their website and at Lowe's. Remember that shopping online can be cheaper for a product, but consider shipping and handling fees in your total expense.

Organizing tools alone won't keep you organized, so find a product you like and a system you can maintain. Even then you may still have to reorganize an area like your pantry once in a while.

Table Conversation Starters

Now that we've helped you get your kitchen and pantry organized, let's sit down at the table and talk.

Good food and great conversation comes easy for some families, but others rush through dinner, eat in front of the TV, or say nothing when they are at the table.

The products listed below have been chosen to start mealtime conversations. Some we have used with our own families at Get Organized!

Table Topics - Cubes of fun with topic cards based on themes. The cubes look great on your table and there are many themes to choose from: 60's, 70's, 80's, Grandparents, Teens, College, Dinner Parties, Couples, and many more topics.

Dinner Table Devotions - A book that will build your family's faith and at the same time start conversations that will build their moral compass. Author Nancy Guthrie has written other books that give hope to grieving parents and build your trust in God in the midst of hardship and pain.

Gather 'Round Dinner Games - Add a little fun around your next meal with this game for families with younger children. Push the button, hear the music, see where the light stops, then ask the question. Cards are protected in a case that will keep the cards clean from dirty little hands.

We will be giving one of these items away on our Facebook page in May.... so become a fan.
