We hope you enjoyed the last days of summer; as fall is here. I know I welcome the return of warm fires and flannel PJs on cold nights.
Our organizers were extremely busy with Estate Sales during the month of August. We were blessed to learn about the history of so many special items put up for sale by our clients.
In September, Get Organized! hosted a booth at The Dallas Home and Garden Market and will be at the North Texas Kids Expo at the end of October. Be sure to visit the Events Calendar on our website for upcoming events and programs. This month we will focus on tips and tools to help kids get their homework done. Plus, I'll share with you my secret for the perfect hot cocoa. Next month our features will be on organizing closets and getting ready for Christmas. Yes, I did say Christmas.The best defense against stress is preparation.

Homework Helpers
Homework is one of those necessary evils. If it could be done without parental intervention, then most of the household stress during the school year would be eliminated.
The reality is that many children not only need help doing their work, but need the constant reminder to just get started on homework.
This month we wanted to provide you with a few tools that could assist you with these issues. The first one is Time Tracker. It keeps students on track with a programmable electronic timer. Green, red, and yellow lighted sections and six sounds let the child visibly see time remaining to complete their homework.
The other product is called Time Timer. Time Timer works as a visual way to display how much time is left to complete a project. Students can see elapsed time without having to know how to tell time. It has proven to be VERY useful for students with Autism, sensory disorder, and other special needs.
There are many different tools available online and through educational stores. Do the research to find the right tools and incentives for your child.
If your child has special needs, communicate with the teacher and the principal and see if the amount of homework can be reduced. Sometimes the student understands the concept, but struggles with the length of time it takes to complete an assignment. This small change can lead to a much calmer household. |

Hot Cocoa
Use any pre-packaged hot cocoa mix from your local grocery store. The trick is to add a flavored liquid  creamer to your hot cocoa. One favorite that is available all year is French Vanilla. However, during the fall through winter try Peppermint Mocha. It tastes just like a Starbucks hot chocolate. Mmmmmm. |
Upcoming Contest
Get Organized! is excited to announce its 2nd annual "Don't Fall into Clutter" contest. It will be conducted during the month of November. Our theme this year will be focused on rewarding an individual who has recovered from a job loss by launching an innovative home-based business.
The winner will receive a home office makeover including cleaning, organizing, printing, and all the right office supplies to help make the new business a success.
Contestants will be required to submit their type of business, the name of the business, the story behind why they started the business, why they feel they deserve to win, and a photo of their current home office.
