The "GO" Newsletter

Greetings ,

We are excited to announce that in June, Get Organized! became an official LLC. We continue to grow in the Professional Organizing industry and are thankful to each of our clients.

Our website continues to have more information and this month we have added a new section called News & Press under our Media tab. This section now includes an Event Calendar which outlines upcoming speaking engagements and media events with Get Organized!.

I am also excited to announce that on July 3, 2010, I teamed up with RoleMommy.com to establish a new blog called, "The GO Mom". As many of you know, "GO" is an acronym of Get Organized!. I will provide biweekly blogs that will offer moms tips on keeping their lives and homes organized.

On July 31, 2010, I presented a workshop at IKEA in Frisco, Texas. I provided patrons with organizing ideas for their offices and gave college students recommendations for organizing their college spaces. Thanks to everyone who stopped by for some FREE organizing advice.

Lastly, in this month's issue we give exciting tips on organizing your teen's room, and getting them ready for back to school. Oh, and don't forget our special this month for new clients only. Buy seven (7) hours of organizing and get one (1) hour FREE. Offer good till August 15, 2010, although appointments based on this offer may be scheduled past the offer deadline.

Disaster Area, Do Not Enter

You may have a teen who's room is harvesting clutter and dust and needs this same sign on their door.

Growing up I remember one of my brothers having a permanent sign on his bedroom door that said, "Disaster Area, Do Not Enter".You may have a teen who's room is harvesting clutter and dust and needs this same sign on his door.

Getting a teen to clean his or her room has to be an expectation, not a request. Keeping his room clean should not be an option, especially if past requests have been ignored.

While living at home, your teen will probably have some great excuses as to why they do not clean their room. School, work, homework, friends, parties, etc. The best excuse is a lack of time and yet they have time to send over 2000+ text messages that month and their Facebook page was updated an average of 3 times a day.

First, do not be afraid to set firm rules stating what you want completed in your home. If your teen cannot learn to obey with the small stuff, how will they ever learn to obey with larger, more challenging requests?

Plan a sit down, face to face meeting with them, letting them know the expectations you have going forward. Make sure they know you have been requesting they do this for some time and your request have been pushed aside for less important things.

Tell them what the schedule is for cleaning their room: either daily or weekly.  If they see they are unable to meet your expectations, they are to come to you in advance and offer and explanation and solution.

Next, give them clear consequences if they do not follow the rules and make them repeat back to you everything you have just said.

Understand there will be some exceptions along the way, but the idea is this should be a rarity, not the rule.

Offer grace and mercy when necessary but do not be a door mat either.
Time Management:
Tips for Teens

  • Make a "To Do" list every day in your phone or on paper.
  • Use an online calendar linked to your phone like Microsoft Outlook, unless you prefer paper calendars.
  • Say no to your friend or boss when they call last minute and you have important plans for studying or getting tasks done around the home.
  • Always have something with you to do in case you have spare time. Use every minute wisely reading, studying, or planning.

IKEA Poster

A good crowd was on hand this past weekend at IKEA, Frisco. Families were shopping for back to college and organizing areas in their homes. Lorraine Brock demonstrated great products offered by IKEA and talked about systems for de-cluttering office spaces.

The IKEA 2010 catalog is now available with new products and styles and patterns. Be sure you get one at IKEA or request online.

IKEA Frisco, Tx July 31st

If you have questions about IKEA products, please us know. If we cannot answer your question we will put you in touch with someone who can. Lorraine's next workshop at IKEA will be February, 2011.
Organizing Tip

Keep a pad of paper, or at least a sheet of paper inside or near your freezer. As you put leftovers or new items in the freezer, jot them down with the date they were frozen. You will then have a list of what you have in your food "bank".
