The "GO" Newsletter

Greetings ,

We are cooking up a storm this month. Baskets are full of hand picked fruit and veggies from the garden, giving us an extra spring in our step while cooking for family and friends.

I had a loaded blackberry bush this year. Each time I went out to pick berries I could tell the birds were enjoying them too. :) But all is well as there was plenty to share.

While my family and I ate most of the berries right off the vine, I did use some restraint and did not eat any during one picking. I collected a large bowl of berries which I used to make fresh homemade blackberry jelly.

So this month we are talking about Cook Up Organized!: how to do things faster and easier with some great organizing tools for your kitchen.

Also this month we are introducing a new partner: Cornerstone Chem Dry. They are the official carpet cleaning company for Get Organized!. I use them in my own home and would recommend them to all our clients.

Lastly, our ad came out this month in The Home Mag. To see the ad click on the link above. It is on the bottom right hand side of page 23.

Enjoy this issue and if you like it forward it on to a friend. They will actually thank you for sharing good advice.

Cook Up Organized!

It's such a great feeling to work in an organized, well laid out kitchen. It makes you actually want to spend more time in your kitchen.

This month we want to give you some ideas about short cuts in the kitchen and organizing the areas you work in while cooking.

Let's start with some useful tips for busy cooks who want to make yummy meals but not when it takes all evening.

Consider precooking ground meats all at once, dividing it into convenient portions, then refrigerating or freezing for future use. You can also cut onions, celery, or other veggies to use for spicing up dishes. Most can be frozen also. When you are ready to add ingredients to your recipes, your vegetables are already diced up and ready to go.

You can do the same thing with veggies and fruit for your family. Once a week cut up cucumbers, celery, watermelon, cantaloupe, etc., making fresh, healthy food always available when anyone needs a snack.

Now that we have a few quick tips under our belt, let's talk about organizing our kitchen. We often find with our clients that people place items where they fit, rather than where they belong. This, over time, causes your entire kitchen to get cluttered and everything ends up disorganized.

One product that we love as organizers is over the door storage for your pantry door. For an inexpensive solution use a clear shoe organizer (see picture below).

You can also get an Elfa Door and Wall Rack Solution. This system allows you to adjust individual shelves to whatever height you like, giving you custom spacing.

Another great organizing tool to use that will maximize you space is a wire cabinet shelf. By using this shelf you create a space below and above. You could also use a Sterlite container on the bottom to hold small items and use the top part for large items.

This wire shelf is not just for giving you more space to put plates on...the ideas are truly endless.
Meal Planning

Planning meals for some is as natural as eating three meals a day. But for others...they haven't realized it will save them time and money. Doing a little work at the beginning will save both time and money through the week.

Setting aside thirty minutes before going to the grocery store will save you extra trips later to buy forgotten items. Preplanning will  keep you within your budget because you will only shop for what you are going to cook.

I recently found a new company in Richardson that created a software program called What's for Dinner? It allows you to plan up to 6 different meals a day, and can include snacks or lunches for kids and adults.

You can also plan "out to eat" nights on evenings you don't have time to cook. The site offers many great recipes you can download for free and then add to your meal planning software.

The program allows you to create and print a shopping list, a menu that is posted for the family, and a menu plan for the chef. This great tool for busy moms sells for $29.99 for a downloadable copy and $39.99 if you want both a downloadable and a CD. With either purchase the company donates $10 of their proceeds to a charity of your choice. The company also does fundraisers as well.

For adding something fun to the dinner table, check out www.NapkinFoldingGuide.com. They offer easy to use instructions for creating fun and beautiful cloth napkins for the table.

We are now able to offer our clients our professional organizing services plus our expertise in designing your glide out kitchen drawers and shelves.

Our organizers will work with you to make every space in your kitchen or other area easly accessible. No more getting on the floor to find things in the back of cabinets, no unusable areas and no more wasted space.

Great Product from IKEA

Ekby Mossby SS shelves can be cut to fit in any space but if you have a dead corner or wall space you might consider adding a few of these shelves.

Place either decorative items or often used items on each shelf for easy access. These shelves start at 31" wide and go up to 46" wide but can easily be trimmed down to the size you need. They are not ideal to use in wet areas like a bathroom but can be used in any other area of the home.

Check out IKEA in Frisco for these and other cool organizing tools.

Hangers
Organizing Tip

When you change your seasonal clothes, place your hangers around the back side of your closet rod and when you wear the item, place the hanger facing the front side of your closet rod. At the end of the season the hangers that did not get changed are the ones you did not wear and you can eliminate from your closet. Sell them or donate to charity.
