The "GO" Newsletter

Greetings ,

School is out and summer is in full swing. There are so many things to do in DFW and yet many times we as natives don't seek the great entertainment right here at home. Check out some very cool parks in the DFW area below and great discounts for summer movies.

For those living in the Dallas area, watch your mailbox for the latest copy of the Home Mag. This upscale magazine is filled with anything and everything homeowners might need for their home projects. This issue, which includes our Get Organized! ad, should be mailed around June 10th.

Fun Parks in DFW

The City of Allen has a wonderful park called Celebration Park that has everything your kids could want during summer vacation. They have a fabulous playground, but also a small waterpark called a spray ground. The spray ground is open every day from 9am-9pm except on Wednesday for maintenance.

In Rowlett your kids can truly become the King or Queen of their Kingdom, at Kids Kingdom. This free public park is a fortress of wooden tunnels, bridges, and hiding places allowing you to watch as the kids have a blast. The park is located right next to the main city building.

Fritz Park Petting Farm in the City of Irving has the perfect little petting zoo. The area is well shaded, free, and open to all ages.

As a reminder when trying to stay cool during outings this summer, pack a wet washcloth for each family member in a cooler. The cloths will stay ice cold and ready to cool down overheated families.

And don't forget safety...use old conference badges placed around your child's neck with contact information if they get lost. For waterparks, consider buying a waterproof container for your child to wear around their neck. You can get these at scuba shops, swim shops, and sporting good stores.
A Day at the Movies

It's summertime and we are again listing all the FREE or almost FREE movie deals. Check out the dates at the links below and plan a day to take the kids to the movies... for FREE or almost FREE.

Organized Vacation

When organizing a vacation, the planning usually starts months in advance. A great tool to use for seeing what other vacationers experience at particular hotels, restaurants, vacation rentals and more, check out
Trip Advisor.com.

Even though a vacation is planned months in advance, many times the packing is done in less than 24 hours. So organized packing is the only way to pack quickly without forgetting items that you will have to replace while travelling.

You can divide items into four categories: clothing, hygiene, activities, and miscellaneous. Creating this list on a computer would be best so that you can easily add or update accordingly. We also suggest making a separate list for winter and summer vacations.

Next, start making a list of items that quickly come to mind based on your trip destination. For example, if you are going somewhere rainy, then write down umbrella under miscellaneous. If you go to a lake house for the summer, write down swim shoes under clothing and beach ball under activities. An efficient way might be to create a spreadsheet on your computer. Make a main folder titled "Master list", then make sub folders titled "Summer vacation" and "Winter vacation". Place this year's summer vacation list in the "Summer vacation" sub folder located under "Master list".

The "Master list" is a folder where many different type of lists can be kept. Vacation, medical forms, medication list, and babysitting notes are a few examples.

Each vacation offers a chance to perfect your list even more. You will eventually get to the point, unless something out of the ordinary comes up, that you pack directly off your list... forgetting nothing. :)

Another quick tip for packing is to always take a few gallon size Ziplock bags. This is important especially if you are going out of the country. It can be quite embarrassing for customs to go through your dirty underwear. If you put it in the bags flat, the scanners can see through it, thereby keeping your dignity.

The Container Store sells pre-made packing lists. While not complete for each person and each of your vacations, it's a great place to start.

Organizing Tip

A place where clutter collects at our house is in the study. I use a set of cubes to keep the camera/camcorder handy, items to return to a friend/store, and one for each child. If my kids can't find something, chances are I put it in their cubby!

She has been a busy mom of two sons who are now 9 and 7. She is active in the PTA, Assistant Den Leader in Cub Scouts, and Teacher of Faith Formation at her church.  She enjoys reading novels, playing tennis, and scrapbooking in her spare time.

She has always enjoyed organizing since she was a child. Her high school nickname was "Little Miss Neat". Now, with Get Organized! she enjoys helping moms de-clutter their homes and teaching them to maintain an organized life. Her strengths are paper management, time management, and children's areas.

Alyce has decorated many homes in her career, focusing on the color or style of a specific piece of furniture or bedspread as inspiration for her decorating plan. Her time living in England and other European countries has not only given her a rich taste but an eye for color.

Alyce has also designed coordinating valances, pillows, and simple curtains to compliment the decor. She considers it a real honor for others to ask her advice on their decorating and organizing needs. Her passion is to be able to help others with decorating ideas and organize any space that screams, "Help!".

Renee Headshot
Renee gets to enjoy a balanced life because of her organization. As a fairly new single mom of a 14 yr. old and 12 yr. old, she has chosen to use her skills to help them enjoy life despite their circumstances. She has experience organizing her own public school classrooms (5 years), house/home, home-school for her two daughters (6 years), schedules, being a former Banquet Coordinator for her University president, others in need, coordinating the newcomers class at her church, parties/events, and her own home based Mary Kay business for the past 13 years.

She was a born organizer in a family of 4 kids and had to share a room with her little brother in a very small home growing up in Alaska. She would inspire him to keep it organized and reward him with a bike ride together to buy a treat from 7-Eleven.  She will encourage you in many ways as you CAN and WILL get organized! Working alongside you to help you have balance in your life, gives Renee a joy beyond description.
