Get Organized! is having a record month. Our clients are all looking for a more efficient way to live. They are tired of being frustrated with the stress and clutter around them. There is a better way and we can get you organized - whether organizing your stuff or teaching you how to manage your time.
 
We've also been busy this month interviewing organizers to add to our team. We went through a series of events to find the absolute best. The first step was phone interviews, then one on one interviews in which each interviewee brought with them something they do to stay organized. Next we invited the potential organizers to one of our events to see how we do business.
 
The final step in the process was an in home evaluation. Yes...Get Organized! evaluated each organizer's home, allowing us to see if they really carried out being organized in their own home.
 
We are excited to announce that we have hired Carol Atkins, Renee Kuipers, and Alyce Horvath as our newest organizers.
 
I know summer is about to hit and everyone will be enjoying some great down time...including myself. However, summer is the perfect time to get those photos organized including slides and negatives. See our article this month on tips, tools, and time savers for organizing your photos.

Organizing your Photos

Do you need some tips, tools, and time savers for organizing your photos?
 
We often see boxes and bins full of photos all thrown together with no organization at all.  
 
Have you ever thought about what would happen to many of your photos if your house burned down, or worse what your family would do with your memories after you are gone? 
 
If you've ever cleared out a home of a loved one that has passed, you know what I'm talking about. Large amounts of photos with no names, no recognizable faces, and no stories behind the photos.
 
Make your goal this summer to get your photos organized. Here are some tools that will help you get started. When archiving old slides Archiving USA has great products. However there are photo scanners that will scan both slides and negatives.  This will allow you to print a great photo and then dispose of the slides and negatives. 
 
If you have large quantities of prints, there are many options for getting them organized. An inexpensive way is to sort your photos either by people or by events with the Power Sort Box from Creative Memories. No scanning involved - just an organized way of sorting and finding your photos.
 
As we mentioned above, it is important not only to organize your photos, but also put a story behind them. Creative Memories has a great product called the PicFolio Album. This resource allows you to place keepsakes and photos in an album and make note on each page of any details you would like to remember.
 
If you are pressed for time and have the extra money, NAPO (National Association of Professional Organizers) recommends a company called ScanMyPhotos.com. You send off your photos, slides, negatives, etc. and they do all the work for you. During the process your items are carefully tracked and safely returned.
 
With digital photography a popular method of saving memories, be sure to back up all images to a remote server. This insures that you will have a duplicate set of images in case of computer failure or damage to your home. Websites like Snapfish.com or Shutterfly.com do the job and are free and easy to download.

Medicine
Organizing Tip -
 
I am the responsible party when any medical issues occur with my mom and mother-in-law. I have a list I keep on my computer with current medications, dosages, and what time of day they take their meds. It also has their doctor's information, insurance, etc.
 
I update and print these lists at least twice a year. I carry a copy of each in an envelope in my purse so if and when I get a call to come to their aid, I don't have to think about this crucial information...and it has happened before.
