The "GO" Newsletter

Greetings ,

We continue to move forward with our new website. This month you will notice our new "Partners" tab. Grocery Assistant

"Get Organized!" has carefully selected certain companies and individuals who offer services that compliment what we offer our clients.  We refer to them as our "Preferred Partners."  Included in our partner list is a realtor, a home loan officer, home inventory experts, custom closet designers and a cleaning service.  We limit each industry to one Preferred Partner.  This allows "Get Organized!" to invest our time in building a long lasting relationship in which everyone benefits.

Also, last month we had a very successful Dallas Home & Garden Market show.  We stood for hours as we talked to potential clients.  We gave away a Container Store gift card, a bucket full of great IKEA products and more.

Oh, don't forget to check out the article below on Unclaimed Property.  I entered many of my extended family's names and found they had unclaimed property... putting lost and now found money into their pockets.

Finally, it's spring time and if you're ready to have some peace in your life.. let us quickly get you organized.

A Christ-Centered Home

As the founder and owner of "Get Organized!," many of you know that I am a bold Christian whether I'm working or not.  In this issue, I want to discuss with you the necessity of having an unwavering authority in your home.

Telling someone not to steal, curse, or lie are all great morals to instill, but on whose authority are they based?  Are they based on the opinion of law makers that revise and change our laws continually?   Are they the opinions of man, that waver with trends or with what feels right?  Or, are the morals and values you teach based on an unchanging authority?

If a child is caught cursing and you tell them it's wrong... who said it's wrong?  Because TV shows say it's okay.  Many times mom and dad curse but then say, "don't do what I do, do what I say," and, sadly, even highly respected leaders both in and out of church use unacceptable language.

When I was in elementary school in the mid 1970s, prayer was spoken every morning as we asked the Lord to protect our kids' hearts and minds as they were being educated.  Today, schools have pushed out the ultimate authority, Jesus Christ; and we have truly suffered as a nation because of that decision.

Today when a child or even an adult views something as right and another sees it as wrong... it merely becomes an opinion to a world that sees no clear right or wrong.

I say all of this to encourage you to manage your home, not on a standard of morals that change with the times, but with the unchanging truths of Jesus Christ.  While Biblical truths may seem a little old fashioned, they are truths that will protect our homes and lives.

I would like to suggest you rent or buy a movie called Time Changer.  Our entire family enjoyed this movie.  The story is about a man from the 1800s who travels into the future and sees a culture that is not based on the authority of  Jesus Christ but on what feels right.  I highly recommend this movie and think it will be an encouragement to you and your family as it was to mine.

Date Night with your Kids...
Father, Daughter

It doesn't matter how old your kids are; you need to make special date nights with each of them individually.  While family days are great...alone time with dad or mom may just be the prescription for staying close.

If you've never had a date night alone with one of your kids.. start now.  It might seem strange but after a few scheduled outings, it will become quite fun... but don't give up if your child doesn't want to go.  It's a dose of good medicine for them, even if they don't realize it.

For conversation starters, stop by the library or the book store and pick up a conversation starter book or make up your own questions before you go.  Start light and make it fun.  Make sure that you plan time within your date to talk, either over dinner or while standing in line for rides at Six Flags.  If your date night always consists of going to the movies, you'll never talk.

Remember, the idea is to pour your influence into the lives of your children and to squeeze out what's going on in theirs.

Organizing Tip -

Even though I am a family of one, I buy in bulk.  I have labeled bottles for refilling items.  I keep the gallon refills out of the way in a utility closet.  That way I keep the space under the bathroom/kitchen area less cluttered.  The items I buy in bulk are: lotion, shampoo, conditioner, window washing fluid, ammonia, make-up remover, computer/TV spray, hand soap, dish soap, etc.  This way I run my household like a business and I do inventory (refills) twice a month.  Plus with this system, when you buy groceries once a week or so you just buy food items.  The rest of the bulk items are bought at warehouse clubs.

Perfume

If you're looking for cologne or perfume in the Dallas area, check out Harry Hines Blvd. There are numerous wholesale shops along this well-known street. You can find stores that sell purses, rugs, furniture, sunglasses and more.

When buying perfume, you can get $75 bottles for about $45.  Often the more you buy the more you can negotiate. Don't be afraid to make an offer in many of the stores.

Food for Thought

When boiling eggs, consider buying an egg timer.  There are many different kinds.  We spent a few dollars for one that goes in a pot of water with the eggs. The timer will turn black when the eggs are hard boiled and orange when the eggs are soft boiled.

Also, if you often keep boiled eggs in the fridge and you're not sure if they are cooked or not...here's a simple way to test:

If an egg is hard boiled, it will spin like a spindle top on the counter... if it's uncooked, it will not spin but wobble over.
