Games and Tips
Although driving may be cheaper, it does take more effort to pack and prepare. One of the most fun and hardest tasks is keeping the kids happy during times such as these, and no one wants to travel with a war going on in the back seat.
Prepare ahead of time some games to keep the excitement building. Consider going to the Dollar Store, purchase a few toys, wrap them up in newspaper, and tell the kids that at certain points on the trip they can open a package.
Give them a map so they can follow along and navigate. Overall, it's a great chance to teach them how to read maps as it will help them later in life.
For older kids play the ABC game, finding letters on billboards, license plates, and road signs. After you have exchausted the ABC game try finding how many flags you can find. And don't forget that stores like Target or Walmart have lots of magnetic travel games that kids and adults can play.
