Knee pain is so common and Myofascial Release can help. I often see patients for these types of complaints and one very common observation that I see during the evaluation process is tightness through the main muscle group in the front of the thigh, the quadriceps muscles (quads). Tightness in the quads creates increased tension or tightness into the knee and kneecap which can, over time, cause wearing or irritation of many pain sensitive structures. If the muscle and surrounding soft tissue or fascia is left in this shortened state, serious problems can develop with breaking down of the knee a common result. I've posted a few research papers on the
Research page of my website that you may wish to read through.
Myofascial Release can easily address these types of issues. Often a person with knee pain has seen their doctor and has had X-rays that show arthritis in the knee. They are told that this is the reason for their pain. They may be given pain medications and told to go to Physical Therapy for strengthening. It is not a strength problem, it is a length problem! (Tissue length, that is). While not all knee issues are caused by abnormally short quads, many can be relieved with addressing these issues.
