Lakehill Auction Promises a Solid Good Time

Mark your calendars now as the biggest night of the year is just around the corner -- the Parent Faculty Club's Annual Benefit Auction is Saturday, March 31, 2012.

This year's theme is "Lakehill Rocks" -- a celebration of Lakehill's 40 years of excellence. The Auction will be the grand finale to a series of 40 events that started last April and will run through Auction night honoring the school's 40th anniversary.

The not-to-be-missed event will take place at the House of Blues located in Dallas's West End, where guests can boogie to the righteous rock and roll stylings of Jackleg. Enjoy complimentary valet parking, a full bar, and the renowned House of Blues cuisine.

Be there or be square...and Rock On!

Basketball Teams Take on Coastal City in Holiday Tournament

While many of us were relaxing or recovering from the never-ending holiday meals, the dedicated athletes of Lakehill's Varsity Boys and Girls Basketball teams headed to Galveston over the holiday break for the O'Connell Holiday Classic Tournament on December 28-30.

The Boys went 2-1 and finished the tournament in third place. The team won the first game, beating host school O'Connell, 57-42. In a hard-fought second game, Lakehill was defeated by Granbury Happy Hill, 60-50, a team the Warriors previously defeated on Dec. 19 at home. The Warriors won the final game against Mt. Carmel, 64 - 50, to take home the third place trophy in the tournament.

Austin Simpson and Cris McCarty were voted onto the All-Tournament team by the coaches from the opposing teams.

Simpson is averaging a double-double (15 points and 10 rebounds) per game this season. McCarty is averaging 15 points a game. Kurt Norman added 12 points a game as well.

After dropping the first game to Happy Hill, the Girls bounced back to beat the host team in a convincing fashion. Amanda Boles led the team with 15 points in the win.

The victory put the girls in the consolation championship game against Bay Area Christian. After being down by 9 points at halftime, the girls fought their way back into the game in the second half. The game came down to the last second, but unfortunately the girls lost by one point.

Amanda Boles was voted to the All Tournament Team.

Galveston 2After eight days off, the tournament provided the opportunity for the team to get back in shape and take on some extremely talented opponents. With three games in three days, the teams are ready for district play which begins on Friday. Both girls and boys teams agree that the tournament was a great experience and provided a chance to get away and bond with teammates before heading into district. And of course, beautiful weather on the beach is always an added bonus.

This Week at the ESC ESC12
Fifth and sixth grade have a fun day of hiking in store for them when they head to the ESC this week. After blazing some new trails, they will also get the chance to work in the garden and help beautify the grounds.

Fourth graders in Dr. Haynes's class studied Turtle Hurdles and learned about a carapace, plastron, and scutes. They also made a turtle out of a paper bowl and paints. And of course, they took advantage of the beautiful day with an outdoor hike in the woods.
