Fun On The Farm

Fresh Air and Fun at Fall Day Out
Fall Day Out
Fresh air, wide open spaces, and a day away from school to enjoy it all...who could ask for more? For Lakehill's Middle School students, it just doesn't get much better than Fall Day Out.

A fire ring warmed students in the early cold, but the weather soon warmed to perfection for the 150 students who headed north to enjoy a full day of play at Sisters' Grove Farm, Ms. Gajkowski's farm/homestead in Princeton, Texas.

Children enjoyed an old-fashioned hay ride, swinging on a rope swing, and impromptu games of baseball, football, and badminton. Many tried to defeat Coach Cayme, the reining ping pong champion, while others relaxed on the porch with games of checkers. After an outdoor cookout, students explored the property, running through the fields and orchard.

While the students clearly enjoyed a day off from school, Fall Day Out seems much more about the "out" - having fun with friends in the great outdoors. It is no wonder that this special day for Lakehill's Middle School students continues to be an annual favorite.

Triangle Rules Take Shape in Lower School Poster Contest

Students in Lakehill's Lower School recently unveiled their artistic entries for the annual Triangle Rules poster contest.

Winners were announced on November 7 during Monday Moments. Assistant Headmaster Lara Gajkowski and Lower School Coordinator Patti Brooks presented the awards.

This year's winners were:
Merritt McCaleb, 4th grade - first place
Jia Van Blargan, 4th grade - second place
Alexandra Navarette, 3rd grade - third place
Ginger Simon, 4th grade - fourth place

Merritt's winning poster, selected from more than 80 entries, will be displayed throughout the Lower School.

Honorable Mentions were awarded to second graders Max Vafa and Cullen McCaleb, third graders Gabe Bines, Sarah Smith, and Kathryn Mahan, and fourth graders Chloe Luneborg, Aubrey Tierney, and Stella Palmer.

Each fall, students in second through fourth grades participate in a poster contest to show support for the Lower School Behavior Code. Art teacher Cat Huitt helps students produce their posters during their art classes.

The three rules of the Lower School Behavior Code, known as the Triangle Rules, are based on respect, safety, and providing a welcoming environment to all.

Teenage Sleuths

Brenda Bly Debuts on Lakehill Stage

The Upper School Musical Theater department is proud to present the American premiere of Brenda Bly: Teen Detective.

It's 1958 - a time of rock and roll, space discovery, and great hope for the future. But trouble is brewing at the Whitney Ellis Private School for Girls. Only days away from the opening night of the end of term musical, "Rocket Girl," the leading lady is knocked unconscious with a sandbag. It is up to teenage sleuth, Brenda Bly, to solve the crime, catch the villian, and save the day.

This Week at the ESC

Squirrels, Skulls, and Spectacular ScienceESC7

Seventh grade students have been on the hunt for invertebrate decomposers. As they look for evidence of decomposition, they learn to answer the tough questions like what are they, where are they, and are they doing their job?

Kindergarten students learned about squirrels and got an up-close look at a squirrel's nest that blew out of a tree. Students then made a giant S and outlining it with acorn tops, the favorite food of the squirrels at the ESC.

Eighth graders continued on The Case of the Missing Skull, experimenting with blood typing (using manufactured and safe blood samples) and getting one step closer to who lost the skull.
