Spirit Week Offers Fun for All

super heroes

It's homecoming week at Lakehill and everyone has caught the Warrior spirit!

Every day this week has been a "Spirit Day" with great participation. On Monday, students and staff decked out in neon while Tuesday had everyone thinking Hawaiian style. Clothing was black and white on Wednesday and Superheroes filled the halls on Thursday. On Friday, students are encouraged to participate in Lakehill Spirit Day by wearing their Lakehill T-shirt or school colors.

Senior members of the football team tapped the Homecoming Court on Tuesday morning. The Homecoming Court consists of freshman Rachel Myers, escorted by freshmen Hayden Jockel; sophomore Sydney Thompson, escorted by sophomore Drew Norman; and junior Casie Poston, escorted by junior Josh Wood.

Senior Nominees for Homecoming Queen are:
Amanda Boles, escorted by senior Austin Simpson;
Ruth Godbey, escorted by senior Kurt Norman;
Ayana Heard, escorted by senior Beau Bungerand
Hannah McCue
, escorted by senior Thomasz Wood.

Lakehill will host its first-ever Homecoming Parade, complete with floats, convertibles, and Homecoming royalty, both past and present, on October 14 at 2 p.m. All parents are encouraged to join the Lakehill students and faculty for this exciting celebration.

A Homecoming Pep Rally will follow the parade at 2:30 p.m.  in the gym. The Middle School football team plays Inspired Vision at 5 p.m. and the Varsity Football game against Rockwall Christian begins at 7:30 p.m. The Homecoming Court will be presented and the Homecoming Queen will be crowned at halftime.

Homecoming also brings former students back to campus. An Alumni Dinner will be held at 6:30 p.m. and former Homecoming Queens will be recognized at the beginning of halftime.

Finally, the Student Council is hosting a Homecoming dance on Saturday night, October 15, from 7:30-10:30 p.m. at the ESC. The "Friday Night Lights" themed event is open to all Upper School students and their guests. Tickets can be purchased from Student Council officers.

Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF
UNICEF

This October, kids at Lakehill are making a difference in the lives of the world's children through Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF.

"Trick-or-Treat for UNCIEF is one of the longest-running youth volunteer initiatives in America, and an important way to inspire children to give back," said Gigi Ekstrom, Community Service Coordinator.

"Lakehill is consistently one of the top donors to the campaign," said Ekstrom. Last year we donated nearly $2,000 and we hope to raise even more this year."

Lakehill students are known for the creative ways they support UNICEF, from donating their allowance to doing chores for donations to hosting lemonade stands. Donation boxes are due by November 1.

Last week's Dig Pink was a huge success with both teams getting big wins over Tyler Street and Covenant. On Tuesday, the teams followed up with a win over Waco Vanguard. JV's district record improves to 5-1 while Varsity sits at 6-3 in district. With the win, the varsity team also clinched a playoff spot for the second year in a row. The girls took third in district and play at Amarillo Holy Cross next Thursday at 7 p.m. in the bi-district round of the state playoffs.

The girls wrap up district play this week with an away game at Desoto Canterbury. On Monday, JV and Varsity play the last home game of the season against A+ Academy. It will also be Senior Night so be sure to mark your calendars. JV starts at 5 p.m. and Varsity at 6 p.m.

The Middle School teams played at Inspired Vision on October 10. The Green Team was defeated in their last game of the season. The blue team won and plays their final game on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. at Canterbury.

Seniors Take On Annual Day of Work

While the rest of Upper School was busy with the PSATs, seniors headed to Perry Campus for a day of work. Laying sod, clearing the Kindergarten trails, forging a new path into the woods were just some of their accomplishments. Students also removed old tree signs so they can be updated and relaid and replaced the rocks in the stream. After a long, hard day's work, the day ended with a tree dedication to the Class of 2012 for future students to enjoy.
