Lakehill Athletes Selected for All-District Teams

Coaches from the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS) met recently to bestow the coveted honor of All-District teams for Varsity Baseball and Varsity Softball.

These awards are particularly meaningful as they are voted on by the other coaches. Voting focuses on the most deserving athletes and prohibits coaches from voting for their own players. Lakehill had a fantastic showing, with a total of 17 honorees.

The following Lakehill students were selected:

Varsity Softball:
First Team All-District: Sarah Baker, Kara Gamboa, Scout Garnsey, and Eleni Wilsmann
Second Team All-District: Amanda Boles, Jacy Franklin, and Lauren Rosenthal
Honorable Mention: Whitney Beckwith, Michaela Rollins, and Josee Santiago

Varsity Baseball:
First Team All-District: Chris Good
Second Team All-District: Chaz Seeds, Andrew Shaw, and Austin Simpson
Honorable Mention: Jonah Guedea, Brett Trutna, and Joshua Wood

Congratulations to these outstanding athletes on this well-deserved recognition.

Simone Ring Luncheon
Junior-Senior Ring Day a Time-Honored Tradition
While the importance of class rings may have diminished over the years, the Junior Senior Ring Ceremony remains one of the most significant events of the Upper School years.

There has always been a special bond between the junior and senior classes at Lakehill, and this year's group is no exception. Held amidst the elegance of the Warwick Melrose Hotel, the Junior Senior Ring Luncheon allowed the class of 2010 the opportunity to reflect, to celebrate, and to pass the torch to Lakehill's next class of leaders. After a recap of their successful senior year, Senior Class President Simone Novorr introduced next year's President, Sarah Baker. One by one, members of the senior class introduced each member of the junior class, paying tribute to each junior during this special Lakehill rite of passage.

Following the ceremony, seniors returned to campus where they gathered in the Student Commons for the seniors' final countdown to 3:15 pm. Faculty, staff, and students joined them to celebrate this milestone.

Dad's Club
Lakehill Initiates New Dad's Club
Dozens of dads filled the Lakehill Auditorium on Tuesday evening for the kick off meeting of the new Lakehill Dad's Club. Although the club is still in its organizational stages, it plans to be up and running by the start of the new school year. The club, which will operate under the banner of the Parent Faculty Club (PFC), will focus on four main components: academic support, community service, infrastructure projects, and social events. For more information, to serve in a leadership position, or to volunteer as a grade level liaison, please contact Reid Parker. The next general meeting will be held in late August.

Making Tracks to StateVarsity Track
After qualifying in the District Meet, five members of the Lakehill Varsity Track team competed in the TAPPS 3A Regional Meet on April 30 in Argyle, Texas. Charles Burch competed in the 400m, Alexis Johnson in the long jump and 100m, and Kara Gamboa, Jenna Burch, Ayana Heard, and Alexis Johnson in the 4x100 Relay. Lakehill's relay team knocked out Brook Hill - the very team that beat them at District - by six hundredths of a second to qualify for the State Meet.

With a near-perfect performance at the Regional Meet, four members of the Girls Varsity Track Team are on their way to Waco this weekend. They are the first Lakehill relay team to run in a State Meet in more than 15 years. The girls 4X100 relay team of Kara Gamboa, Jenna Burch, Ayana Heard, and Alexis Johnson will be running the race of a lifetime on Saturday morning, hoping for a state medal. The Lakehill girls, who were running the eighth fastest time in the state prior to the Regional Meet, are now running the fourth fastest time heading into the State Meet. Additionally, relay anchor Alexis Johnson will be competing in the long jump on Friday.

Middle School Track
The Middle School Track team finished their season at the TAPS District Track Meet on Tuesday, May 4. In a field of competitive seventh and eighth graders, sixth grader Natalie Guess placed second in the 400 meter and Chloe Roberson, also in sixth grade, placed fourth in the 100m and fifth in the 200m.
