Letter from the Headmaster
|
Dear
Parents:
I hope you have enjoyed the summer break and are ready for an exciting year. I want to welcome you back
for what promises to be a year full of exciting initiatives and new opportunities.
We are putting the finishing touches on the new Alice and Erle Nye Family Environmental Center. This state-of-the-art Silver LEED certified building will be a lasting legacy for future generations of Lakehill students.
The
programs of the Alice and Erle Nye Family Environmental Science Center are designed to inspire students to become stewards of the environment by building awareness, furthering understanding, and leading students to take environmentally sound actions based on their expanded knowledge of the world in which we live. I look forward to the Dedication Ceremony on September 10.
I am extremely pleased with the renovation of the gymnasium. New bleachers, upgraded sound quality, and many enhanced features will provide our students, parents, and alumni with a first-class facility. We invite you to join us for a home Volleyball game in September!
We are continually grateful for the generous
gifts from the Parent Faculty Club (PFC). The gifts range from new and improved technology to a brand new 48-passenger bus which will transport students to and from athletic events, field trips, and the new Environmental Science Center. Thank you to the numerous parents
who give so generously of their time, energy, and financial resources. All gifts, regardless of size, impact the lives of our students. We hope you have noticed the new signage at the west entrance to the campus and on the south side of the building. Another
campus improvement to look for is a new sound system in the auditorium.
Our mission
at Lakehill is to challenge students to navigate a diverse and ever-changing
world by providing them with the opportunity to develop robust academic skills
and to cultivate unique talents. Our faculty members continue to set the standard with their experience and innovative teaching. We welcomed six new faculty and staff
members this year to Lakehill, and look forward to introducing them to
you. This fall, we will be working on our strategic plan to set short-term, mid-term, and long-range goals.
I enjoyed seeing so many of you at the Back-to-School Picnic and
look forward to all the upcoming events that have been planned. Please join us on Friday, September 4 for the Tailgate Party at Perry Field, followed by our first home
football game of the season against the Gold-Burg Bears.
I look forward to
seeing you then.
Warmest Regards,
Roger L. Perry

Lakehill Honored by U.S. Commerce Association
|
Lakehill Preparatory School has been selected for the 2009 Dallas Award in
the Private Elementary and Secondary Schools category by the U.S. Commerce
Association (USCA).
The USCA "Best of Local Business" Award Program recognizes
outstanding local businesses throughout the country. Each year, the USCA
identifies companies that they believe have achieved exceptional success in their local community and business category. The award winners are local
companies that enhance the positive image of small business through service to
their customers and community.
Various sources of information were gathered and analyzed to choose the
winners in each category. The 2009 USCA Award Program focused on quality, not
quantity. Winners are determined based on the information gathered both
internally by the USCA and data provided by third parties.

Back-to-School Picnic
|
Students, parents, faculty, and staff gathered on
Saturday evening at Lakehill's annual Back-to-School Picnic. Sponsored by the
Parent Faculty Club (PFC), this event continues to be a favorite tradition among
Lakehill families.
Held on the field adjacent to the school, Saturday's picnic
was the perfect opportunity for families to reunite for fun and
friendship. Families brought their own picnic, and gathered in areas set up by grade level to visit with friends and meet new classmates.
The
Varsity Cheerleaders kicked off the event with cheers to build school spirit.
The Football, Volleyball, and Cross Country teams were introduced. Two water slides provided endless entertainment while those who were more
musically inclined performed karaoke for the crowd. Denise Palmer and Ashley O'Neill, PFC
Co-Chairmen of the picnic, were extremely pleased with the event. "The picnic was the perfect way to start off a new school year," explained O'Neill. Despite the record-breaking heat, students enthusiastically declared it the "coolest" picnic ever.

Lakehill Selects New Director of Admission
|
Lakehill Preparatory
School recently announced the selection of Holly
Walker as the new Director of Admission.
Lakehill looked at qualified candidates from the top private
schools in Dallas and engaged an
educational search firm. The search led full circle back to Walker, a Lakehill
graduate and parent of a Lakehill kindergarten student.
"Walker's passion,
creativity, and experience clearly satisfy the many strenuous criteria and
qualifications developed by the School and the Board of Directors," said Lara
Gajkowski, Assistant Head of School.
Walker replaces Susanne
Seitz, who recently celebrated ten years of service to
Lakehill. Seitz is leaving to be able to stay home with her two-year-old
daughter. "I am thrilled to have Holly on board at Lakehill," explained Seitz.
"We worked together all summer to ensure a seamless
transition, and I am confident she will be a wonderful addition to Lakehill's
administrative team."
"Holly is a talented individual with outstanding
organizational and administrative skills," explained Headmaster Roger
Perry. "She is also an exceptional communicator who builds
bonds with others. As a Lakehill graduate, she truly understands the unique and
special mission of our school."
Walker, a 1995 graduate of Lakehill, says she is thrilled to
be back in the school she loves so much. "I love interacting with others,
problem solving, and meeting people's needs. Ultimately, the admission process
is about helping families make the choice that is right for them," she explained.

Get that Warrior Spirit! Join us on September 4 for the Tailgate Party and the Warriors Varsity Football Season Home Opener against the Gold-Burg Bears.
With a roster of 18 boys, the team claims 10 returning Lettermen, including three All-District performers. Although the team is young, with 13 freshmen and sophomores among the 18 players, Coach Peacock reports that the team should be hard hitting and high scoring.
Building upon great participation in the off-season, the team began practicing in August, including a three-day football camp in Palo Pinto County. Fans should look for strong leadership this year from senior captains Mac Kelly and Harrison Boyd, and will be proud to see the Warriors' new Nike uniforms, in Lakehill's traditional kelly green and royal blue.
On September 8, join us for the Lady Warriors Varsity Volleyball Home Opener against two-time State runner-up Tyler All Saints. This will also be the first district game of the season. The team has been working hard since starting with two-a-day practices on August 3. Coach Cayme reports that there is "tremendous potential with this dynamic young team." With a 3-0 start to the season, no one can argue with that.
