Grocery Distribution and the Power of Prayer!
Our desire at Flood is to never take for granted the opportunity to pray for another person as they receive groceries. In 2009, 4606 grocery packs have been distributed and each pack represents an opportunity for a guest at Flood to receive and pray with a volunteer. 837 first time visitors have already come this year and been touched as they received the blessing of groceries, been called by name and offered prayer. Volunteers from twelve different churches have stepped up to the distribution front line to be an example of Jesus' unconditional love. The most common prayer requests are for housing, work, healing, reunification of their familes, and deliverance from addiction. Every week we hear stories of prayers answered from the week or month before! Last week a man named Charlie reported that three weeks before a volunteer at the distribution line had prayed for him to be able to quit smoking, he smiled as he said he had three weeks tobacco free. Let the scene pictured above never become common place but every Saturday let each volunteer on the front line have a new passion for interceding on behalf of a person hurting in our community. |
Flood Graffiti Wash is officially off to a great start. Stockdale Christian School Jr. High Students and Flood volunteers made a splash in the surrounding community on May 20 as we worked with the City of Bakersfield's 32-ERASE Anti Graffiti Program to eradicate graffiti in the area. In our first week of indentifying, reporting and painting over the graffiti volunteers have cleaned up 55 locations with hundreds of individual tags removed. The goal of this partnership is to work together with and educate surrounding businesses in order to eradicate graffiti in our area and provide meaingful volunteer opportunites for those wishing to have a positive impact in the community and give back to Flood for the assistance they have received. | |
Stockdale Christian School Floods Bakersfield! 3rd Annual Community Service Day A Success
Over 140 Jr. High Students reached into inner city Bakersfield with the love of Jesus Christ on May 20. Students removed graffiti, read to kindergartners at a local elementary school, picked up trash, prepared food and hygiene packs and a group headed out on the GET bus routes to bless travelers with water bottles on a very hot day. The day resulted in 2000 individual items collected for Flood and many projects completed with a positive impact on our community. Thank you SCS! |

Flood launched a pilot program "Adopt A Family" in Standard School District to prevent families from becoming homeless when a crisis occurs and their income is interrupted or lost. Flood will provide short term rental assistance, security deposits, moving assistance and other necessary assistance to prevent loss of housing for families. There is strict eligibility criteria and a referral system for this program and all families will be subject to a detailed case management plan. If you would be willing to offer emotional support to a family by providing a weekly phone call of encouragement, a meal on occasion and a birthday gift, when appropriate, please contact the Flood office at 32-FLOOD for more details. |
